Perlman Clinic La Mesa

My daughter attends college at San Diego State and this is her first year living in California. We have excellent coverage and I verified this clinic on our Aetna website to ensure she would not have any issues when visiting this clinic. However, it is out-of-state insurance, which has not been any issue ANYWHERE else in San Diego (including the main hospital at UC San Diego, a local dermatologist she went to see, and the pharmacy). For whatever reason, this clinic has issues properly verifying insurance. It appears they use some pre-approval website that won't recognize our Aetna insurance (again, this has worked in many other states, and many other places with ZERO issues). Not only have I loaded the insurance into their online system multiple times, my daughter has given them the insurance card in person, several times. Each time they state it is showing it is invalid/denied and that I need to contact their billing department. After contacting the Perlman billing department, they verified there are NO ISSUES with our insurance. And yet, the front desk continues to be condescending, rude, and unhelpful to my daughter every time she goes in, stating she will need to pay out-of-pocket in order to be seen there. I even explained to them that I can see 2 of the 3 claims they have already submitted to Aetna, on Aetna's website for the amounts of $575 and $675, in which they will get paid on, and clearly our insurance is not invalid and is not being denied. There is a major gap between the billing department and the front desk system that they use at these clinics, in which they either are incompetent or untrained in how to properly verify insurance, which in turn causes them to lose business from patients who have valid, working insurance. It is unfortunate because my daughter actually likes the doctors at this facility, but we will never return due to the way we were treated by the front desk, and their inability to "verify" the valid insurance that they already have submitted multiple claims on. This could have been at least 4 years of business for them while she is in college, but instead we will make sure to pass this experience on to every other college student in the area, to ensure they find a facility that has the ability to verify insurance and communicate with their OWN billing department in an efficient manner, and be respectful/helpful to college students who are far from home

I had a fantastic visit to Perlman Clinic recently. The Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Carina Correa NP, was exceptional--very knowledgeable, patient, and truly took the time to treat me well. They performed an electrocardiogram (EKG), and the entire process was quick and comfortable. I really appreciated their professionalism and the high quality of care. This is a great clinic.

SCAMMERS!!! I am sorry, but I must take back the five stars I had given. I recently found out that this clinic is a scam. The clinic itself looks clean, organized, and well-maintained. The staff are helpful and friendly. My initial visit went fine, everything seemed good. Then, the front desk called me saying the doctor would go over my results and asked when I was available for a video call. The doctor called, told me everything was normal, and that was it. I had already reviewed my results myself and made my own treatment plan. And then--boom--$250 bill. Excuse me? I've been to and worked with many clinics before, and I have never seen a place charge separately just to tell you your results. That is supposed to be part of the consultation. You see the doctor, get your labs, the doctor reviews the results and prescribes medication if needed. If it's not resolved, then you do a follow-up. Charging for simply reading out results is pure fraud. Scammers!!

I had an appointment scheduled to see my primary Dr., but it was weeks away. I called in to get a sooner appointment and the receptionist was able to schedule me in to see my primary physician, Dr. Dengerink the following Monday! I was sooo happy to see her so soon! Dr. Dengerink was also able to schedule me with an order request the same day! All in all it was a pretty fantastic day! Thank you for making this happen!

Suzanne Calcutt is amazing. She listened to my concerns. She called in prescriptions right away. I'm 100% satisfied and highly recommend her.
