I made an appointment for a consultation for my cardiac condition and while I thought the consultation itself went fine I was blown away at what UCSD Health charged me without any patient transparency. They broke down the cost to basically two things, a new patient visit ($782) in which the doctor spent about 15 minutes with me and then an EKG w/facilities charge ($634) done by a nurse. My insurance didn't pay much so the bill ended up being a whooping $1,101.22. I've done plenty of office visits for consultations in the past and this by far was the highest cost ever! I feel UCSD has committed fraud against me, by not warning me before the visit what the cost could be. Yes, I didn't ask when making the appointment and I expected maybe a few hundred dollars, but this is highway robbery! I've learned my lesson now and will never use UCSD for a non-emergency service without requesting some up front transparency in costs. In the end after complaining the billing department offered a 20% discount, but paying $880 for the consultation is still outrageous.

Dr. Hsu is an outstanding surgeon.He has performed my heart surguries, installed stints, ablation procedures, pacemaker, and a Watchman device which prevents almost all strokes. All my vital signs are normal after five years after my Heart Attack.My AFIB is gone.UCSD has an Outstanding medical staff. John G.

Dr. Hsu is kind and took time to explain the procedure I needed, in great detail putting me at ease. I am called back immediately at appointment time. He is both professional and friendly, as is the staff. Dr. Hsu handled two procedures for me recently in the same month. I have nothing but good things to say. He made an unpleasant situation much easier. Stellar care.
