My husband has been under Dr. Bonilla's care for a few years - after leaving his office we are always left scratching our heads. Recently my husband underwent major open heart surgery and after two and a half weeks we had a followup with Dr. Bonilla and it was clear he had not read my husbands chart well before entering the room. He didn't even know who performed the heart surgery, unaware of procedures that were performed during the surgery, confused on (standard) post-op medications and not one time did he look at my husbands chest to check the wound and how it was healing or ask if he was in any pain or discomfort. He was very worried about my husbands cholesterol count from March, 2018! We will not be back. This is not the standard of care a patient should receive after open heart surgery to repair a mitral valve.

I saw Dr. Bonilla at the UCD Med Auburn office. I thought he was kind, thoughtful, and thorough. I have a minor problem but have had the occasion to see several cardiologists over the years. He listened closely and was curious to know more about things I brought up, engaging me in discussions about various issues. I agree with the other comment that he took his time and made sure I understood everything. I'd recommend him.

I felt complelled to write a review of Dr. Bonilla because I think the negative reviews may be misplaced. I first took my mother to him and he took his time listening to her issues and explaining things to her. When I scheduled an appt for myself, one time I waited over 30 min and left but when I returned the week after, he also took his time with me - reading my medical history to fully understand my health history, then systematically discussed various possibilities and tests he recommended (and those he didn't recommend). I appreciate his thoroughness. He also often stops to ask me if I have any questions. So, the reason he may be running late is because he actually spends time with his patients. People in the U.S. are so used to be shuffled in and out like a heard of cattle so when they have to wait...guess what? Others have to wait also as the doctor spends adequate time with you!
