Patient
I took my three week old daughter here for an echocardiogram, which was performed by the tech John. He was visibly uncomfortable with breastfeeding, which made me deeply uncomfortable as well. When we arrived, we were taken to one room to weigh my daughter and then were instructed to wait to be called to another room for the echocardiogram. While we waited, I started feeding her. John came to get us, was startled by my breastfeeding, then closed the door and *spoke to us through the door* instead of just coming in the room. He then walked away and I could hear him tell staff "well that was embarrassing," which very much seemed like his thoughts about seeing me breastfeed. This is my second baby I've breastfed and I've always done it anywhere they were hungry. It never occurred to me to hide it, and this is the first time I have had someone react this way. It is quite disappointing to me for it to happen at a *pediatric* doctors office! Babies and children should be John's day job and if breastfeeding makes him uncomfortable, he should refer out children under a certain age. I was extremely surprised to see a medical professional act like this and it made me feel like I couldn't get out of the office fast enough. Our follow up appointment was at the Newport office and went well. We won't be returning to Orange.
