Professional, knowledgeable and compassionate staff. I was admitted for a life threatening condition and the communication and coordination between the different departments was so flawless it reminded me of being in the military. The physicians, nurses, and CNAs knew the plan of care. Every staff member I encountered treated me with the highest respect. This was my first ever hospitalization and I hope it was my last but if I have to be hospitalized again I will be coming to ABSMC

I had the best care and experience at this hospital. I spent a month there , my surgeon Dr. S.Stanten and his team was the BEST I have a deeper appreciation and respect for the ENTIRE staff . The doctors, nurses, housekeeping, food services ,even the phlebotomist that came to collect blood everyday . They treated my family and I with much respect and care. I recommend this hospital to everyone who's in need of a hospital that they can be assured to get the care needed.

DO NOT!! I REPEAT! DO NOT bring your loved one to Summitt Medical Center ER, Hospital & especially ICU if you want them to come out healthy again or alive!! November 2025 Update: My Mother now passed away in this facility and they not only deteriorated my Moms condition and killed her through their careless & negligence!! My family is sitting here writing this update on my first Thanksgiving ALONE in her home she did not get the opportunity to come back to -- and now planning her services instead of enjoying any holiday!! DO NOT!! I REPEAT! DO NOT bring your loved one to Summitt Medical Center ER, Hospital & especially ICU if you want them to come out healthy again or alive!! Summitt ICU has single handedly deteriorated my Moms health in one month and we are now being forced to plan her "end of life" care because of their racial bias, negligence, arrogance and incompetence in care of my elderly sweet mother who was mostly healthy & active when we brought her to ER!! The ICU Doctors are deplorable, and have lied, insulted our Mothers health & have no heart! Most of the nurse are travel, and cannot keep consistent communication or care because they do not know the hospital or stay at one location long enough! This place is death trap and I would not bring my dying pet here after this experience! I am heartbroken but this review is a factual warning to anyone who values their life or their loved one's life! All The Bay Area hospitals have gone downhill, but if you need treatment & can't make it drive to Stanford or somewhere safer, and if you have to come in guard your loved one with your life 24/7 but even that wasn't enough for us.! Devastated!!!

The absolutely worst medical experience I have ever had was at Alta Bates Hospital on Ashby. My husband took me to the ER and the next thing I knew I was drugged and stuck there for four days. I was diagnosed with a kidney infection and given an IV of morphine. I was unaware of these facts until I went to a kidney specialist after I was finally released. A group of incompetent nurses spent hours arguing about whether or not I should be released. Because of the drugs I had a really bad fall for which I had to be in physical therapy for approximately one year. The nurses were very angry with me and kept telling me that they told me not to get out of bed. As it turns out all I had was a bladder infection which should have been treated with antibiotics rather than morphine. No wonder there are so many people who are addicted to drugs. If you can avoid it - DON'T GO THERE - go to a real hospital where the nurses are not making all of the decisions.

The Summit ER team is phenomenal. Kind, professional, knowledgeable. They took the time to listen to me and believe me as I explained my rare and unusual symptoms. They hustled to make sure I got the MRI I needed so I could get the diagnosis and care to relieve my pain. Thank you all for being amazing at what you do.
