Recently, I had my first visit to Chico Cardiology. The staff were friendly and helpful including the nurse whom I initially met with. My cardiologist was Dr Massa. This isn't exactly the format to discuss my opinion as it relates to his professional advice but suffice it to say, he had the worst bedside manner of any doctor I've ever been to. He showed zero interest in really helping me better my health. I was there to listen and to be heard. There wasn't much to listen to and there was little effort to be heard. I was hoping to discuss possible solutions to chronic hypertension, and my risk of heart disease... perhaps further blood tests to hopefully get a more accurate picture of my heart health. It was clear he wanted to focus only on getting me to take medication. To be fair, he did mention diet and exercise but failed to ask what my current diet was and did not elaborate what he meant by a good diet and the long term benefits. Overall, it was a horrible experience. I thought doctors were there to help us find ways to improve overall health...I left the office of Chico Cardiology feeling like my overall health was of little importance. In stead, I was just another individual to prescribe a pill to. I suspect his claim would be that getting me on cholesterol medication counts as him doing his job and caring for my health. To that I would say, I don't need a band aid, I need real solutions to finding root causes. You can do better Dr. Massa.

My mom suffered a heart attack while visiting her ill mother in Oroville and was admitted to Enloe Hospital in Chico. Tragically, my grandma passed away the following day of my mom's heart attack. We informed the nurses that my mom lived over 2 hours away. However, during discharge the hospital provided us with information for Enloe Health Cardiology Services and stated that our first follow-up appointment has to be in Chico. Coincidentally, the follow-up appointement aligned with my grandma's funeral and burial, which took place this morning before our afternoon appointment. All of the staff at this clinic were kind and professional--except for one nurse who made our visit extremely distressing. She was completely lacking in sympathy and displayed some of the most unprofessional behavior I've ever encountered in a healthcare setting. Unfortunately, I didn't catch her name, as I had briefly stepped out to the restroom when she entered. She had short blonde hair, almost like a tomboy. When I returned, I was shocked to find her raising her voice at the interpreter in front of my mother, who does not speak English fluently. This aggressive and condescending behavior continued throughout the appointment--not only toward the interpreter but also toward my mother and myself. She questioned, quite rudely, why we were even at their clinic given that we lived out of town. I explained, calmly, that we had requested to follow up locally in our hometown, but were told by Enloe Hospital that the first follow-up had to be in Chico before we could transfer care. Despite this, she dismissed our reasoning and told us we didn't need to see their nutritionist if we weren't going to continue with their cardiologist. Her tone was consistently demeaning, and it was completely inappropriate for her to raise her voice--especially without any knowledge of our circumstances. We had also just returned from my Grandmas funeral that very morning and was already in a vulnerable emotional state. I honestly fear for patients who might be alone with her--especially those who have language barriers or can't advocate for themselves. I cannot imagine how much worse this encounter could have been had the interpreter and I not been present with my Mother. Because of her, we left feeling disrespected and entirely unsupported. Everyone else at the clinic was great, but due to this nurse's unacceptable behavior, I will only rate this clinic one star. I sincerely l hope this feedback is taken seriously and that appropriate steps are taken to address this situation. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion - especially when they are at their most vulnerable.
