My husband and I have had several appointments here. Generally the restrooms on the first floor are at least ok, mostly just people leaving crumpled up paper. Today around when he tried to use the handicap stall besides the usual paper waste. M there was literally feces on the grab bars. So he had to use a stall without safety equipment and rely on the toilet paper holder as a grab bar. It would be great if someone checked the restroom as often as needed to keep it clean.

I had emergency gallbladder removal in Lakeport ca. After an MRI there it was determined that I needed another procedure to remove stone or stones that were passed and still in duct. I was medically transported to Alta Bates in Berkeley since they could do the procedure. (They were unsuccessful and are sending me to another facility that has more experience.) 1st night. Roommate I was put in with left around 11. Strange time I thought. But then after she left next thing I know was they were bringing in another roommate. I endured 2+ hours of her medical history when all of a sudden they got word she was now going to 6th floor. So, away she went after keeping me up for 2 more hours. Tonight just as I was going to bed, same thing. Here comes another 10 o'clock admission. Yep. You guessed it. 2+ hours of her medical history. She informed them she wet herself during these questions while having CT scan. Aides left, but came back after remembering she wet herself to clean her up. More time...Patient is now situated. But decides to turn on her TV and still has light on. It is now 1 am. I lost my mojo(grogginess) for sleep so I get up to pace (walk)the hall. Did I mention she is loud and has a loud "giggle".Finally ask if I could sit in an extra chair at nurses station which was OK with them. So I thought. Within 5 minutes one of them didn't like computer in front of her. But informed me she needed the one I was at. Pacing again around the hall until I spied an old wooden upholstered chain at a 'stop no exit' glass door. Staff knew this was becoming a problem. Staff knew she and aides were loud, as if 11 .12 and 1 o,'clock was late and disturbing another patient. It didn't show them I now can't sleep. I even asked one of them if they could here my new roommate 'giggle' as she was again talking with the aides. Nurse just nodded. Their lack of empathy towards me was felt, believe me!!!The thing is as I walked in a circle around the floor there are several empty beds. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind sharing the room. But not starting at 10 or 11 at night!!! Rude to keep up a patient who needs rest after emergency surgery. If the roommate was brought in hours before there could have been friendly conversation and probably both of us to bed at same time. If it has to be 10 or 11 admission it could have very easily been in a different room. It is now 2:30am. My incisions hurt, and want to lay down and sleep. I want to get better. This Staff needs different guidelines for there admissions and when it is late to learn the art of whisper and turn down or off with lights. I guarantee patients will try to also tone it down. They know we are all here, not feeling our best and being that late, everyone is trying to sleep. Patients need the rest to heal!!! Hospital needs new guidance from management when it comes to late night admissions. I for one am disappointed and will share my experience and not recommend this hospital. Addendum.... 3:20 am. I went back to my room, lights still on, TV still on. I used restroom, made my be put on some chapstick and went back to the glass doors to the chair. Many staff have seen me, they aren't stupid. They know there was a problem and one of their patients was forgotten.....me

Amazing experience. Came in through the ED after a days-long episode of severe stomach pain, left without a gallbladder less than 48 hours later. The ED ordered an ultrasound, diagnosed the problem, and admitted me to the hospital within a few hours. The next day, I had an MRI scheduled at 6pm, but my nurse went to bat for me and got it moved up to 12pm, singlehandedly saving me an extra night in the hospital. As soon as I got back to my room after the MRI, my surgeon showed up, chomping at the bit, wanting to take me down to surgery RIGHT NOW. (If you stay here, don't eat anything: be ready for surgery at any time!!) No pain after surgery, great communication with my family, got me out before 11am the next morning! 10 out of 10 would get worthless organs removed here again.

I wish I could remember the names of all the people who helped me in the emergency department. I would thank them all personally. The hospital security personnel who scanned my bags and stood guard made the area feel safe; the front desk staff who checked me in and triage nurse who helped me get fast-tracked for my procedure made me feel seen; Dr. Kim, RN Ramon, and Christian who were so so kind to me and incredibly professional made me feel comfortable and turned fear and uncertainty into relief and gratitude; and the fabulous woman who helped me sort out the insurance and get me discharged perfectly embodied the culture of dignity and transparency by explaining everything to me with care. I hope I don't need to go back, but if I have another emergency in the Oakland area, this department will be the first one I think of.
