Patient
Dr. Cotter was my cardiologist from the time I was 16 until I was 38 and moved away. Hands down the best doctor I've had in my life! I'm a adult with congenital heart disease and from the first appointment he took great care to make my mom and me feel cared for and reassured. I can still remember how he asked if anyone had explained the nature of my heart condition to me and then proceeded to take out a blank sheet of paper, draw a picture of a "normal" heart vs. my heart and helped me understand my condition and why I had to keep seeing him every year. He always remembered details about my personal life as well, asking me questions about the "goings-on" year after year which was a nice personal touch! He saw me through my second open-heart surgery to replace a valve and made himself available to return phone calls and answer me many questions via email. I literally cried when I had to say goodbye and seriously considered keeping him and driving 2.5 hours to his office because I have appreciated him that much! As someone with a life-long illness that affects you in ways that I am just now beginning to appreciate more seeing how my defects will continue to challenge me, you can't under-estimate the value of having a doctor who truly sees you, is with you and for you every step of the way. This is who Dr. Cotter is and was for me!
