Highly recommend Mad River community Hospital! Went into the ER last night around 7 PM. The wound care center is scary. The Dr is the cardiologist at the hospital. He looked at my wound and told me it looked great and was healing good.
Two days later I was having emergency surgury to save my leg. Dr Pardoe at Providence is great. I was in St Jo hospital for a month and had 7 surgeries to save my leg. Good thing I didn't listen to Dr Taylor, I wouldn't have a leg had I followed his advice. Stay away.

Why do I keep giving this place another chance?
I came in with a severe, documented medication reaction -- the kind that hijacks your entire nervous system: uncontrollable crying, crushing anxiety, and a level of internal chaos that feels like dropping straight into hell. Because of my MS, I could not speak, so I did everything right: I brought a written letter, my medical history, the documented side effects, and even explained that it took my last anxiety pill just to physically get through the door.
And what did I get?
Silence.
Neglect.
Abandonment.
My medication wore off while I sat there deteriorating. My fight-or-flight kicked in so hard I went searching for any sign of a nurse, a triage window, a warm body -- anything that suggested I was in a medical facility instead of a holding pen. Look at the picture. That's what I saw. Nothing. No staff. No presence. No way to signal distress. No one who could even pretend to care.
This wasn't my first bad experience here.
It's not my second.
It's not even my third -- and that includes visits with family members. The pattern is the same: no urgency, no access to your medical records, no continuity of care, and no visible sense of responsibility for the humans sitting in that waiting room.
They didn't check on me once in three hours.
I finally hit the point where my body said "you're not safe," and I bolted out of the ER shaking and crying -- and do you know how many staff members ran after me or checked on me?
Zero.
And now they want to "talk to me about my visit."
That's nice, but a conversation won't fix a culture of indifference. You can set up all the patient-experience phone calls you want -- but if the front line of your ER treats people like background noise, nothing changes.
Let me make it simple:
The drive to Providence/St. Joe's is worth every mile.
They listen.
They check on you.
They actually act like healthcare providers.
This ER even looks rundown -- and unfortunately the care doesn't rise above the decor. If your medical records live with Open Door or Providence, brace yourself: you will have to explain your entire health history in crisis because this ER is still operating like it's 1998.
If you want to gamble with your safety, stay here.
If you want actual care, go somewhere else.

My absolute worst experience ever visiting a hospital or ER was in coming here. I had a double ear infection that was causing immense pain to the point of almost passing out. I was met with incredibly rude and sarcastic staff that literally laughed at me and asked me if I had "thought about taking ibuprofen", which was after the doctor harshly stuck a scope into my swollen and infected ear without warning or caution. I left still in extreme pain without having received any help and on top of it very upset by the way I was treated and the pointlessness of the visit. And yet I still have to pay the bill for which they did absolutely nothing for me. Try to avoid going here.

I liked the ease of tracking my medical records through their portal, and I had a really nice nurse who had a lot of casual conversation with me and that made me feel a lot better after hours of pain in the ER portion
