Patient
This was my 2nd time to be here. The first time, I was made to do the treadmill even though the orders were chemical. I could not complete the test, & then I just moved my care to another hospital. Not the end of the world. So now my second time there just recently. I will say that the staff was wonderful. I encountered 99% really nice, caring people there. I did feel like they were rushing too much, but probably not their fault. Mercy is well known for having way too many patients in one spot all at once. Anyway, I had a good experience overall and that is why it's a 3 star from me. One thing I found that really should be improved, though. It was a very simple request from patients and denied. Mercy staff does not understand that some patients do not drink soda and that caffeine is also in tea and coffee. Other labs with other hospitals do understand this. I told more than one person that soda will make me sick as I have not drank it in many years. I requested coffee, and I was told no. I was forced to drink the soda. I could not drink it fast enough, and I could tell there was one staff member getting annoyed at me. If I chugged it, I would not keep it down. I know my own body. A sweet man there finally just gave me food and water, which is what I really needed after being deprived an entire day by ER. Anyway, I hear an elderly man down the hall who is extremely upset. He was telling them he does not drink soda. He was upset that nobody told him he'd be forced to drink soda here. He is a super healthy looking older man who probably doesn't drink poison. After seeing how extremely upset he was, one person finally did say they'd get him some coffee. I guess I should have thrown a fit like he did haha Anyway, I just think this is a ridiculous thing to upset people with who may or may not have a heart issue. Maybe they are watching sodium because they are heart patients? There are other ways to get caffeine. A little respect for those who don't poison their bodies with soda seems like not such a terrible request to me. Your competition has people eat an entire meal and can certainly have coffee if they want. Just mentioning.
