Lobby Latte and Banner Shops (don't know why it's plural--just one shop) are conveniently located in the main lobby and are pleasant places for the staff to go for a coffee break or for visitors to have a little respite. I had a delicious horchata at the coffee shop and enjoyed browsing the gift shop. However, a shop in an area like Sun City should also carry handmade items, either purchased outright from the many clubs with talented artisans or through items donated by them. Sun City is called The City of Volunteers, so let its residents have the opportunity to donate unique items made with care! There's something so comforting receiving a handmade card or gift and the patients would so appreciate something like a lap blanket, shawl, a little stuffed animal or a little soft heart to hold in their hand. At least part of the shop should feature heart made treasures like that instead of mass produced items mostly from overseas. It would be a great community relations move too! Some display cases in the lobby, perhaps featuring "Club of the Month" would be interesting for people to look at too since arts and crafts are helpful distractions and they could hold samplings of what is in the shop for those who usually don't visit shops. Why not have some changing art exhibits like the Mayo Clinic does? They even have a Center for Humanities in Medicine since they realize the healing value of art and have copious amounts of it throughout, including changing exhibits.
