Valley Medical Care

I have an incredible doctor at Valley Medical Care. She is Dr. Jenna Schmidt and the level of care and compassion she has provided me with is second to none. She is very intelligent and loaded with common sense which I appreciate immensely. I have chronic medical conditions that require regularly scheduled, monthly appointments and on-going coordination with other providers. We are very lucky to have the caliber of doctors at Valley Medical Care located in Juneau.

This is my first review in my life and I am posting this primarily so others are also informed and dont make the mistake that I made. In July 2024, I went to their office to register as a new patient because I had heard very nice things about this clinic from my friend who is a nurse. I sat for approximately 30 mins and filled out a lengthy application. This application went into a black hole and I never heard from them. This year, I contacted them again to follow up on my application. They asked me to resubmit my application and eventually scheduled me for an appointment. I had to reschedule that appointment and I called them with enough advance notice to reschedule. They put me down for another date at 2.30 pm on Oct 7th. Unfortunately, I missed that appointment, not intentionally but because my mother also needed urgent medical attention and I got caught up with taking her to the doctor instead. While I was at my mother's appointment, I realized that I completely missed my own personal appointment at Valley Medical. So, I called them promptly at 3 pm to seek a solution for the appointment that I had just missed. I was told that because I missed this appointment I will never be able to be a patient at this clinic. This came as a big surprise, most clinics charge a no-show fee, which I offered to pay as well. The front desk had no empathy to offer since their policy is that if you miss your inital appointment, you will never be able to get treatment at this facility. I wish they provided this information when I first contacted them. I think policies like this should only be in place if they are disclosed ahead of time. It is something you share with your patients when they first reach out. But keeping this information a secret from your patients and only disclosing this information when its too late, I think is a bad practice. Juneau is a small community and we dont have many options to choose from. I hope that this review guides folks in understanding that if you try to get care at Valley Medical Care and happen to miss your first appointment due to whatever is going in your life, you will never be banned forever from this practice.

Very friendly and personal help - came in to get a Corn removed on my right foot. Intake with Lisa was warm and professional as always. Matt Jones detected a piece of glass to our surprise, which he removed. Felt almost instantly better- thanks! Really liked the comfortable feeling at Valley Medical - thanks!

Actually Dr. Luke Mather is an excellent doctor and very thorough in his examination, very knowledgeable and patient. Takes time with patients. Good listener and kind. The staff at Valley medical are also friendly and helpful as well as very professional. It's also a very clean facility. Lab results are the same or next day. Wonderful practice.
