Overall, I was very impressed with my stay. The staff was excellent across the board--from housekeeping to the doctors--and I'm grateful for the care I received.
My biggest concern was the lack of communication between doctors and nurses. I went three days without food or water because the nurses were unsure when my unplanned surgery would take place. I had been life-flighted from Soldotna, which made the uncertainty even more stressful.
My husband, whom had to stay in Soldotna with our two year old, was also frequently left out of the loop and often unsure of what was happening, even after surgeries. Communication with family members clearly needs improvement.
Discharge was another major issue. I know whoever is reading this is aware of how discharge often feels: "Good luck." If I hadn't had the money to pay for a flight home, I would have been completely stranded. This lack of discharge planning only contributes to Anchorage's already significant homelessness issue.
While the surgery itself was explained extremely well beforehand, I received no verbal instructions, guidance, or tips on how life would be affected afterward without one of my organs. I was honestly given more information after getting a tattoo than I was after a major surgery.
There is so much this facility does well, but improved communication, discharge planning, and post-operative education would make a meaningful difference for patients and their families.

Surgery day- arrive at 10:30am check in...surgery Dr's called during and after procedure so 5 stars for them. However, the only communication we received as a family was after waiting several hours and reached out to nursing staff for an update at 7pm. Another hour stated. Another hour and a half and still no update. I called the Med Group/Dr. to advocate for my daughter since nothing was being communicated.9:30pm finally heard from nurse and 23 hr overnight observation has been ordered. Do better Ak Regional...

Excellent experience, the pre register was all right on time, no wait. Then the pro-op nurse took me right into cubicle where all the clothes to wear were laid out nice. Doc came in for short visit, anesteialogist talked with and help decide about pain meds to use in operating room, All went very smoothly, professionally, even quickly, probably helped, because I was first. Last I remember on operating table, was getting the pain med intravenously threw my hand, that I would feel sensation in my veins. it was more then a sensation, it was a burning sensation, but only lasted a second or two. woke up in the recovery, feeling little pain. Recovery for the day and half in hospital went very well. In fact I expected the surgery recovery to be more evasive. Nurse, staff all were kind, professional, very attentive. The whole experience went much better than I expected. I would recommend my surgeon to anybody, Dr. Prevost was excellent.

My mother in law had surgery here and they did an excellent job of taking care of her from start to finish. The entire staff was so professional and caring throughout the entire process and they really put my mother in law at ease. The room in which she stayed in had its own bathroom and plenty of room for guests. The room was also outfitted with cable tv to keep her occupied after we left. I would like to thank the entire staff for the world class care you provided for my mother in law.
