Patient
I had a very disappointing experience with SSM Health, similar to other reviews I've read. I went in for preventative tests that should have been fully covered by my insurance. However, SSM coded the bill incorrectly, and I was left responsible for the balance. After talking with my insurance provider, I requested that SSM recode and resubmit the claim, and was told it would take a specific number of days. When I followed up after that time frame, I learned they still hadn't done it. In the meantime, they told me I had to pay the bill or it would be sent to collections. To protect my credit, I set up a payment plan and provided my banking information, assuming the payments would process automatically. Despite that, I never received any notification or billing for the payment plan. no emails, no letters, nothing. Then I discovered they had sent the bill to collections anyway. I have no idea if they'll even bother to recode the claim now. This experience has shown me that SSM Health cares more about collecting money than about patient care or doing what's right. It's incredibly frustrating to do everything by the book, maintain insurance, follow their procedures, try to pay responsibly, and still be penalized for their mistakes. If they can't handle a simple coding correction properly, how can patients trust them with larger bills? I will not be returning to SSM Health.
