Dr. Alderson joined CHKD in 2022 after retiring from the U. S. Air Force with more than 20 years of service to her country. She has lived in the Hampton Roads area since 2010 when she moved here to serve as chief pediatric cardiology consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General. In her role, Dr. Alderson was often involved in coordinating care for extremely vulnerable children around the world. Before moving to Hampton Roads, Dr. Alderson was stationed on the Gulf Coast, helping restore pediatric care to the area, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. She worked at Children's Hospital New Orleans in addition to caring for her military dependents at Keesler Air Force Base.

As I near the transition out of CHKD, I've worked with many specialists, and Dr. Alderson has been the only one!! who was blatantly disrespectful, extremely condescending, dismissive of my medical history as well as my concerns, and prone to miscommunicating with my primary care physician, seemingly intentionally but with definite hostility. No health professional has caused me as much anxiety as she has, and I hope no one else has shared my experience.
