Wonderful place and everyone takes good care of my mother in law. The place is comfortable, everyone is efficient and Dr Guzman is very sweet and has excellent communication.
I've been a patient of Dr. Deguzman for two years. I find him somewhat "on the quiet side", but well-mannered, and polite. There are times though that I find that I have difficulty understanding his speech due to his accent. Granted, I am somewhat hard of hearing in one ear- but even if I am closer to him the problem still exists. He doesn't have that "crisp" appearance doctors usually have, but it's more like a country doctor's "frumpy" look. (Just sayin'! ) Though now retired, I have thirty-one years of combined service as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor, a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and a Nationally Registered Paramedic with Critical Care experience; now, I am in NO way a physician nor have I ever claimed to be so. But from my limited (compared to a doctor's) medical education and wide pre-hospital care experience- Dr. DeGuzman is pretty darn impressive! My above rating is a four due to the following. Dr. DeGuzman is usually on schedule, which is nice. His medical assistants (I can recall only two) are usually polite and seem competent. The front desk staff have always been polite and well-meaning, but woefully understaffed. The office has an "overly busy" feel to it every time I have visited. The checkout process seemed to go fairly quickly, and the receptionist was competent. The waiting room really needs some updating, to say the least; on my visits, the chairs were a mid-matched hodgepodge of different variations, including a couple of uncomfortable plastic shell-type chairs. It's topped off with a hard vinyl floor, which reminds me of the type of Naval Hospitals and clinics in the late '70s/early '80s. I can state that the restroom was quite clean and serviced recently. Lastly, the parking area. I only noticed one handicapped space. (but, I may have missed one) It was conveniently located near the office entry and exit door, but if a handicapped patient (as I am) had to park their say, a large Ford Ranger double cab pickup in it, (as I unfortunately did so) it could be a real pain in the caboose to get out of! (It was... ) The parking lot can get pretty darn full it seems, so I'll offer this bit of parking advice: Park on the side of the building; there is more room for sure! Thank you.
Look no further, they are the best. I highly recommend this office for your cardiac specialist needs. They are prompt answering the phone, friendly front desk staff and very thorough with explaining next steps. Barbi the echo-tech was very friendly, kind, thorough and gentle. Rebecca an assistant to Dr DeGuzman was kind, sweet and explained everything patiently so I could understand and answered all my questions. Dr DeGuzman was prompt, answered my questions, was thorough with testing and friendly. I am hearing impaired, so I will often come across impatient office staff when I don't appear to have a disability.. that wasn't the case here. I was never in a long phone hold queue and between the emails, texts and phone calls as forms of communication... I was able to feel assured and have clarity about my test results and appointments..
Last time, had appt, they never recorded it. Deguzman suggested a procedure my husband would never survive. Took 3 weeks for them to get appt w/ER doc. Best of all . . they called in the wrong meds. These Dr's prescribed Amiodarone. Husband said loosing weight, can't gain. Deguzman brushed it off to heart surgery. It gave him hyperthyroidism & I had to bring it to deguzman's attention. He NEVER looked at how much weight he had already lost. My husband lost a total of 100 lbs & died June 24, 2023. He left this office too late.
I have very much faith in Dr. Deguzman. He appears to be extremely competent and has an easygoing, comfortable bedside manner. The nurses are so-so. The office insists you bring in your medications (as opposed to a list). My nurse lost my blood pressure meds summarily called me on a Friday afternoon before my vacation to let me know she had done so. None of this compares to the front office. They appear to mean well but are woefully understaffed. One individual trying to meet the needs of half a dozen people waiting to check in, while still answering each and every new phone call. It's an impossible situation and one that certainly did not meet social distance guidelines. There was a line out of the office door...a line a heart patients and their at-risk caregivers. People were on top of each other. I asked my nurse if my next appointment (just the delivery of my results) could be virtual. This is a service they offer and promote. I was told they would "let me know". My appointment is at 9:30 tomorrow. Having heard nothing, I called at 2PM today for clarification. Of course have heard nothing... No text, no email, no call. Like I said, the doc is great, but that's where it ends. And isn't the other stuff important as well?
