I have nothing but wonderful things to say about VVSE!! The care my dog, Ziggy received before, during, and after his right TPLO surgery was thorough and professional. Dr. Schillinger spent an hour with me during our consultation, drawing different diagrams of a canine knee, explaining the injury, and how it would be surgically repaired. Before leaving, she provided a clear path forward and what to expect in the recovery process. The entire VVS team was incredibly kind and patient with my requests for updates, as my dog had to stay overnight following his surgery. They sent us home with a folder of detailed instructions and a week-by-week recovery checklist, as well as links to Youtube videos on how to complete at-home rehab exercises. We also opted to have our dog do post-surgical rehabilitation with Kiah and her team, who are amazing! Ziggy is stronger and more confident after his sessions with them, and would get so excited to "go swimming" in the underwater treadmill. The front office gals would greet him before every session with lots of excitement, and the team even took some graduation photos of him one he finished his sessions! While surgery is always a tough and stressful experience, the entire staff at VVSE welcomed us with kindness and professionalism, and we appreciate the support they offered!

I will never be able to thank Dr. Purnell and the amazing staff at Virginia Veterinary Specialist for the spectacular care that they provided to my cat, Smokey. Dr. Purnell's extensive knowledge about FIP is what saved my little guy's life. Dr. Purnell has treated and monitored Smokey's care from his diagnosis to the present date; and because of her quick wit, Smokey has almost fully recovered from his illness. When I call to make follow-up appointments, April, at the front desk remembers us and is always willing to accommodate our schedules. I HIGHLY recommend VVS and will forever be grateful for finding a skilled veterinary team that truly cares about our fur babies.

The staff are superb! I was visiting with my dogs from out of town and had a scare with the oldest when he got into a pond. Fearing toxic algae, I took him to Virginia Veterinary Specialists. They had a wonderful Tech, Haley (sorry if I did not get the spelling correct) who came out to the front and got down on the floor with him, right in front of the counter! She was compassionate, knowledgeable and just a wonderful person, who was truly concerned about the old boy. They reassured me that he had just hurt his paw and although he was probably in pain, he didn't appear to have been poisoned. They fully understood that since it wasn't life-threatening, I preferred to take him home to his regular vet and waived the check in procedure. It's rare to find a place that cares more about their mission and purpose than business rules or admin. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Vet said she could fill a prescription for my dog that is in severe pain if it turns out I did not have enough to last a few weeks. Only had a weeks worth and called the vet after 5 days and they will not fill a prescription until he is seen again. I have to take off work again and set up another appointment and pay for another exam visit.

I never leave reviews but this place has my whole heart. My dog Paisley has now had two surgeries at this facility. Dr. Schillinger is so professional, thorough, and kind during every visit and procedure. She answered all my questions and even drew me pictures to help me fully understand the surgery. Not to mention, the vet techs, surgery techs, and front desk staff are absolutely top notch. They are 24 hours a day and never make you feel like a burden for calling to check on your pet after surgery. I could not say enough good things about this facility. It is more than worth it for the price and the drive. Beyond thankful for them and all they have done for us. My dog can now live the life she deserves!
