SHAMEFUL!
We recently had a two week experience at this hospital. Let me begin by telling you they have the best ICU staff we have ever encountered. And that's saying quite a bit as we are coming from top hospitals on the West Coast.
The ICU professionalism is next level.
Their patient care is personal and heartfelt. You are not just another patient. You are a human in their eyes. And they do everything in their power while you are under their care.
Unfortunately, the hospital's corporation follows the PERVERSE PROFIT OVER PATIENT model to the detriment of every human walking in there.
We will be penning a letter to the state board as we have taken plenty of photos of exposed rust on plumbing (In rooms in the ICU). Duct vents are filled with grime and bacteria breeding in the ICU rooms.
This same "profit over patient" model means you also get substandard nutrient deficient food while you are there. Fries and chicken nuggets probably in seed oils. They don't offer you honey only sugar. Sugary drinks. Sugary corn syrup, fruit juices. Sugar filled desserts. If you don't have diabetes when you go into the hospital, you will when you leave. Farm to table does not exist. It is frozen foods. Rehydrated foods. Absolutely nothing locally sourced and nutrient dense.
This is not a reflection of the Food service staff. Again they were professional, kind, and courteous. It is not their fault. They do not have healthy options. Even the basic things like honey to offer their patients instead of sugar were not available. . They did the best they could.
It's a sad state of affairs. My heart goes out to the staff who has to work under these conditions. They WANT to give the best care to patients only to have a greedy corporation tie their hands behind their back. Must be very frustrating. My heart goes out to the entire staff at Rio Grande Valley Hospital.
You deserve better!

Sandra, RN
I took my mom for a scheduled cardioversion at 10am. We arrived at 10:15am to the room. No one met us in the room to hook my mom up to the monitor. After more than 10 minutes, I ended up having to connect my mom to the monitor and take a set of vitals for her bc NO ONE DID. After about 10 more minutes, one person showed up, peeked in and said,'Oh! You already have vitals.' Which was because I PERSONALLY had to do it myself. Dr. Lozano showed up a little after that to ask about anesthesia. The nurse SANDRA, RN who I found out was my mom's nurse almost 2 HOURS later came to ask questions or do the medication reconciliation until 12:15p. This was after more than three people stuck my mom
More than 6 times to get an IV. The med rec was done at 12:15 as the CL nurses and anesthesiologist were there at bedside waiting to get consent and take my mom to her procedure. Which all of this should have been done HOURS prior.
At 1420, I arrived back to the room after the procedure and she STILL wasn't connected to the monitor. So I HAD TO DO IT AGAIN. Why was she in her room by herself in the dark with no post procedure vitals taken per policy? At 1428: I had to Unclamp the IV fluid after the nurse hung the fluids and said that they needed to be run. I told the nurse there were no drips in the chamber so she needed to check the IV that took more than 4 people to start, so she hadn't even checked if it was running. The nurse then flushed the line, however my mom ended up having blood pushed back into her IV very quickly and painfully because she said,'OWW!' SANDRA should have clamped and then disconnected IV TUBING BEFORE flushing fluids in the line.
MY MOM WAS Only offered the call light until 1444. So she hadn't had anything explained to her ALL DAY. Complained to the charge nurse 1450. 1455: Charge RN Isidro came to follow up with us.
-1505: Charge RN started 'incidence' report. I just wanted to get out of there FAST and NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. EVER. BOTH my mom
And I have been nurses for more than 10 years and it was absolutely an absolutely HORRIBLE experience that should NOT have happened with the supposed high level of care, vigilance, and nursing excellence that should be given to ALL patients at ALL times. I would NEVER recommend this facility or poor nursing care to anyone EVER.

I recently had an excellent experience at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and would highly recommend it.
The most outstanding aspect of my stay was the great staff. From the nurses and technicians to the administrative personnel, every individual I encountered demonstrated genuine care and professionalism. They truly go above and beyond in their efforts to ensure patient comfort and well-being. Their consistent attentiveness made a significant difference in my recovery, as I always felt my needs were being anticipated and addressed promptly.
Beyond the exceptional care, the physical aspects of the hospital were also impressive:
Cleanliness: The rooms were exceptionally clean, and the overall environment of the hospital felt well-maintained and hygienic, which is very reassuring.
Food: I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals; the food is great! It was healthy, well-prepared, and a welcome change from typical hospital fare.
Rio Grande Regional Hospital provides a high standard of medical care coupled with a deeply compassionate and efficient approach.

had my first born here. was nervous because i originally heard iffy things about this hospital but i couldn't have asked for a better delivery. Olivia was the name of the nurse (i think that's what she was) who helped me in the beginning and pretty much did the hard parts with me. i absolutely couldn't have gotten through that without her being the absolute best at keeping me calm and feeling comfortable during something so uncomfortable lol. 10/10 experience and highly recommend to anyone giving birth lol

Don't bother going to the ER! Especially if you have plan G and medicare! They knew they'd get paid with or without seeing a neurosurgeon. Promised me I'd get to see a neurosurgeon if I stayed the night! 26 hours in that place, didn't see any neurosurgeon! Their medical records show nothing for the nerve pain I was having in my legs! Especially my ankles! Also nerve pain in both arms. What a crock of BS in this emergency room! Their medical records show they'd speak to me about smoking cessation patches, I'd most likely be allergic too! Didn't bother to find out about my allergies! Glue in patches could have methylisothiazolinone or rubber in them in which I'm allergic too! A rotating doctor came into my private room, with future doctors, and said I'd probably be referred to physical therapy! I'd already had 125 hours of physical therapy! He had no clue what was going on! The majority of that for cervical spine/whiplash! The next afternoon, I stood out in the hall of my private room with observation window 26 hours later., and told nurse on duty they quite literally were treating me for nothing!!!!!! Nurse came in to room to release me, and refused to give me a copy of the MRI of my cervical spine from the night before!! Their Cervical spine MRI didn't show the spondylolisthesis in several areas of my cervical spine! MEDICARE SCAM! Smoke and mirrors don't bother returning their call to your review, more smoke and mirrors! They can't fix what they're employee's already messed up!
