Everett, James, Dr. Stevenson and everyone else involved made a very bad experience (severe AC shoulder separation) much more manageable! All were very nice, caring and professional. I recommend these guys 100%!

I had a very unfortunate encounter with a physician at this facility back in March. Dr. Loya was the most hostile and unprofessional physician I have ever seen. I am alarmed by his indifference and Lubbock Heart Hospital's decision to employ him. I arrived in the ER waiting area and the staff admitted me about an hour later. The nurse took me to a room and informed the doctor would be in shortly. Dr. Loya entered and asked me what my medical issue was. I informed him it was severe abdominal pain that had substantially worsened throughout the day. I told him that I had a previous ER visit a week and a half prior, where they conducted a CT scan of my abdomen and found nothing usual. I also told him I saw my specialist on Tuesday, who ordered an ultrasound that also found nothing usual. I also told Dr. Loya that I was at Lubbock Heart Hospital for a HIDA scan but that my pain had severely worsened. Dr. Loya's tone changed. He dismissively responded with, "What do you want me to do about it?" I replied that I wanted to know what was causing my pain because I wanted it to stop. He said, "Well, we can't do anything for you here." He then received a phone call and abruptly left the room. My fiance then joined me in the room. Dr. Loya returned and introduced himself with a handshake to both my fiance and me. I again asked if there was any way to figure out what was causing me so much pain. He said he could order a CT scan, but since I had one so recently, it might increase my risk for cancer. I pleaded with him, wanting to know what was the source of my abdominal pain so that it could be stopped. He asked me, "Did anyone prescribe you anything for pain?" I told him "No, I've just been taking Tylenol throughout the day." He then became hostile and said, "You just said no, you're not taking anything." I responded with, "I said I was taking Tylenol." He replied, "You just said you weren't taking anything." At this point, my fiance interjected and repeated what I had said. Dr. Loya became defensive, and said, "You said you weren't taking anything." He obviously did not listen to my answer and was not going to listen. I replied, "You asked me if anyone prescribed me anything for pain. I said 'No, I've been taking Tylenol.' But you didn't listen." Dr. Loya said, "What do you want? Do you want fentanyl? Is that it?" I felt this was an inappropriate question. I replied with, "I want to know what's causing my pain." He then said that there were only four options for me. The first option was to admit me, but that's only if my labs showed anything unusual. He said the second option was he could transfer me to another facility. The third option was to discharge me home. The fourth option would be for me to die there, which I felt was inappropriate for him to say. I asked him if I could be transferred to Covenant, to which he did not respond. He instead asked, "What do you want me to do?" My fiance asked him, "We want to leave. Did we come to the wrong place?" Dr. Loya answered, "Yeah, you've came to the wrong place." He then stormed out of the room. We waited for about 15 minutes but no nurse or staff member came to my room. My fiance went down the hall to ask staff where they were in the transfer process. The nurse and medic from before came and began unhooking my IV. The nurse Jessica handed me a form for going "Against Medical Advice." She told me I had to sign it if I wanted to leave. I was confused because we had asked for a transfer, but not wanting to put up with any more difficulty, I signed the form even though it felt like I was being forced to do so. We left Lubbock Heart Hospital's ER and went to Covenant Medical Center, where we were treated with dignity and respect. Along with my specialists, I was eventually diagnosed with a chronic digestive disease. I felt the need to publish this as I have previously emailed the above text to Lubbock Heart Hospital and received no response. I have resorted to leaving this review in the hopes of educating potential patients before coming here.
