4 out of 5 stars
Or perhaps 4 stars and 75% of the 5th star
I truly want to give South County Hospital a full 5 stars, because the staff are consistently polite, professional, compassionate, and hardworking. This hospital has helped me, my family, and my friends many times over the years, and in more than one situation they have quite literally saved our lives. For that alone, I am deeply grateful.
That said, I do feel the need to be honest about a difficult experience I had this year.
I went to the ER three separate times, including Thanksgiving, for severe abdominal pain. While every staff member I interacted with was kind and respectful, I felt that my pain was not taken seriously enough at first. On more than one visit, I felt like my symptoms were brushed off and that there was a hesitation to fully assess what was going on. I was sent home still in significant pain, and it took multiple ER visits before I finally felt like things were moving in the right direction.
As a 22-year-old, I couldn't help but feel at times like there was an unspoken assumption of, "Oh, he's just a young guy trying to get out of work or school." That was frustrating and discouraging, especially when I genuinely knew something wasn't right.
After my third visit, I am now scheduled for a colonoscopy and endoscopy, which validates that there was more going on that needed further evaluation.
I want to emphasize that this review is not a criticism of the staff themselves, who were always courteous and professional. It's more about how difficult it can be as a younger patient to feel fully heard when you're in real pain.
Overall, South County Hospital is still a place I trust and would recommend. With just a little more attentiveness to persistent pain especially when patients return multiple times I truly believe this would easily be a 5-star hospital across the board.

I went to this ER late last night and the staff working to include nurses and the doctor were so caring and nice. They helped me however they could to make me feel better without making me feel silly for going. The doctor had a great personality as well, trying to make me laugh. I'm glad I live close by to this hospital. Great job to you all! Thank you for your hospitality.

Apparently, if you get diagnosed with an abscess in your intestines they place you on a clear liquid diet. Chicken broth, jello, and ginger ale for all three meals. It was really good. All the staff really took great care of me. I would come back here again, but I hope I don't have to.

I went to the emergency room Fri. not feeling well as my doctor could not see me. I was taken right in, Ex rayed, blood drawn. After 4 hours of lying in bed, no one coming in, I got up, removed the needle and walked out. I went down the road to a small urgent care and was out in 45 min. I have no intention of paying a bill from SCH and notifying my insurance companies not to pay a fraudulent bill if they get one. I am very disappointed.

I was there is 7 hours never communicated to me as to what they were doing. and then when I left I removed my own Iv due to the incompetence of the staff and being ignored for why I was there. Upon arriving home the nurse had the audacity to call me and tell me that if the police didn't come to my house or rescue did not come to my house to ensure the iv was out that she would call them and send them. People do your homework because it's against the law as well as HIPAA and the staff at South County Hospital seems to use it as a weapon to terrorize people
