Patient Reviews

Patient

★★★★★

Dr. El Khatib is an amazing surgeon, and a very caring person. He spent over an hour with me and my husband explaining the surgery, what to expect, and any options we may have. He took very good care of my husband who had a triple bypass 2 weeks ago. I can't say enough about this incredible man.

★★

I like Dr. El-Khatib very much as a human being, and I believe he's a good surgeon. But unfortunately between his office, Dr. Omar Awais' office, and Dr. Stephen Hussein's office (all in Monroeville), my mom's cancer surgery has been put so far back, and I have to say something. There's been such poor communication between the 3 offices that it's very unfortunate, and it's cost us precious time. I really hope, it hasn't cost her, her life. On 12/20/2023 my mom (Deb Mears), and myself spent 4 hours in pre-op at UPMC waiting for Dr. Omar Awais to perform cancer surgery that never happened, because he never got the okay from Dr. El-Khatib, and Dr. Hussein, over her heart issues. It turns out that the cancer surgery should have never even book, because Dr. Awais never heard from Dr. El-Khatib, and Dr. Hussein about doing the surgery in the first place. There has been so much of the buck passed between the 3 offices that it's really frustrated, and has severely taken a toll on my family. I have to leave this review, because if going forward with any of these 3 doctors, I want them to know that someone is paying attention to all of these things. On top of this, my mom was prescribed Farxiga for her A-fib by this office. We still have the bottle, and it was Dr. El-Khatib that mentioned it specifically to us. That it could help to even heal her heart. It stopped the A-fib totally, but we were allowed to run out back in December, and all the way through the stress of this cancer and failed surgeries, she's been plagued by A-fib attacks that are so terrible that it causes her to throw up. When she should be able to rest, and be at peace for this whole process, she gets to enjoy nothing of the kind. Neither Dr. El-Khatib's office, or Dr. Hussein's office will take responsibility for the Farxiga. Now, we can't have it at all, because we are working with Allegheny General over the possibility of having the clip down on her heart valve. There's just been a lot of mismanagement here, and I just want to post these reviews to be seen, and let each doctor know that it's not just some old lady going through this alone. That her son is keeping notes, records, watching and paying attention very closely at each appointment. I'm really upset to say the least. I hope for so much better going forward. I like Dr. El-Khatib as a person though, and I've heard great things about him as a surgeon, but we have never been able to get to our surgery. And I fear that we have been cost so much time, since a heart surgery should be done, before the cancer surgery, and we lost a medicine that's made a huge impact on my mom's life. I can no longer be silent in any of these matters.
