I joined The Heart Group in Fall 2015. My time is largely split between the office and hospital, seeing patients admitted with advanced heart failure, or cardiac problems resulting from chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I also care for patients who had heart transplants and those with mechanical heart pumps. My medical school training included advanced training in the care of patients with left ventricular assist devices. At Virginia Commonwealth University, I completed a Physician Scientist training program that included three years of dedicated research. Dr. Varma is just an incredible physician. He knows his 'stuff' & this gives you a strong feeling of security. He is very well educated! He is a calm, patient man. If he tells you to change your meds ( take extra or less), he knows what he's doing. Do it!! When you ask him questions, he answers them! I don't personally care for doctors, but I totally trust him. The staff is incredible, as is their phone system.
