UPMC Hanover

I was in the ER and instantly admitted about 10yrs ago. I couldn't have asked for better medical care; especially the nurses - I swear they were all angels. I was there for 5days, and felt fantastic by the time I was discharged. After reading all these 1 and 2 star ratings, it breaks my heart to think that such a phenomenal hospital has sunk so low. And I see people saying that they will go to York instead of Hanover in the future...I hope to God they don't, because THAT place is hell on earth... I've never been a patient there, but have visited friends in there at different times, and it was utterly terrifying. Please, Hanover Hospital, return to the unbeatable medical facility that I can send friends to again, with confidence; back to how you were 10yrs ago.

I went to the ER fully expecting to sit for hours, be told to take Tylenol, and sent home. Instead, they took my symptoms very seriously and figured out right away something was wrong. I wound up staying a full 5 days where I was treated with kindness, respect, and the best care I could have hoped for. The teams in ED, ICU, and Hospital wing did everything they could to ensure my comfort while providing treatment and helping to unravel the mystery of what was going on. From the nurses, the doctors, the volunteers and social workers, everyone was on top of all my needs and comfort. They set up all my follow up appointments and ensured I was safe getting home. I cannot say enough good things about my treatment here. Thank you UPMC.

As a concerned parent, I brought my child to the emergency room at Hanover Hospital after she was bitten by our puppy, who hasn't had his rabies shot. Urgent care was already closed, and I wasn't sure how serious the bite was, so we decided to play it safe and go to the ER. We arrived before 9:00 PM and were registered and triaged within about 10 minutes, which was promising. But after that, we waited over 5 hours before my daughter was finally seen by a doctor--she wasn't taken back until 2:00 AM, and the doctor came in around 2:15 AM. In the end, we were told to wash the wound with soap and keep it clean. While I'm thankful it wasn't anything serious, it was incredibly frustrating to wait so long just for that advice. This was our third negative experience at Hanover Hospital, and definitely our last. In the future, we'll drive to York or Gettysburg, even if it's farther. My suggestion to the hospital: if a condition is deemed non-urgent during triage, please be honest and communicate realistic wait times. If we had been told that up front, we might have chosen to go elsewhere or wait for urgent care to open the next day. Also worth noting: the only thing that happened quickly was collecting insurance information and payment details. The staff member handling that was very blunt and lacked empathy. I'm not expecting luxury service, but when you're speaking to anxious, tired families, a little kindness goes a long way. I'm sure some people have had good experiences here, but after three bad ones, I can't recommend Hanover Hospital if you value your time and peace of mind.

Hanover hospital helped deliver our child. The nurses are fantastic! We were very pleased with the process and attentiveness of the staff. They helped make a lot of the stress go away. This is a great hospital to have a baby in.

I got to the ER early Wednesday morning Aug 13th and will be here for a few more days. I just want to say how amazing the Doctors, nurses and all of the other staff have been. I won't get into extreme details but I have had 2 emergency surgeries and a few days in the icu, all because my body likes to be difficult. I feel the Doctors and Nurses have acted more like they are taking care of a loved one and not some random patient off the street. Thank you for everything you have done to help get me back home with my family, it means the world to us. Please keep up the great work!
