My wife had an emergency surgery here a few months ago and we couldn't have been more pleased with UPMC Hamot. She had to stay over a period of several days and we met a large number of staff. All were excellent. All were caring. All worked hard to provide a high level of care. We absolutely recommend it and are thankful for the level of care she received.
The staff there is great. My wife has been there 4 times in 2 months stayed almost 2 weeks between the trips and surgery. Every time we encountered great care. Lizzi, Samuel, and Mary took outstanding care of my wife. Dr. Loveranes did great with her surgery. All of them have great bedside manner
What's the point in taking a number at patient registration if they're just gonna call them out of order 8, 11, 13... What happened to 9. Now someone is trying to explain something that makes no sense. why they waste paper lol. Meanwhile supposed to be registering people but just chit chatting about there own life while people are standing waiting with no more seats. Lots of staff standing watching but not doing anything. I got here an hour before my surgery instead of 30 minutes like they told me and it still wasn't early enough. I was scared to get up to use the bathroom because I didn't know when they would call me or if they would just skip me.
The only two complaint I have is the parking. Handicap parking sucks. Vehicles park too close to each other and you can't get a wheelchair between the vehicles and there isn't any van assemble parking spots available if any. Every parking location to the emergency room entrance is a pay to park.
My grandmother, an RN, was instrumental in beginning an entire mental health unit at Hamot decades ago. It's sad to see how far the standard of care has fallen from nursing to physicians and even the aids. Both of my parents have been admitted this week and both have had nightmare experiences.
