Patient
THIS DOCTOR NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. This was the worst and most terrifying, unprofessional experience I've ever had with a doctor. At first, the appointment was okay- he is very much an uncomfortable and dismissive Doctor. I have seen him before, and his behavior was so off-putting and borderline rude- that, at the time, I genuinely thought he was joking. At my most recent appointment in October, we discussed switching my adderall prescription from my psychiatrist (due to financial/insurance issues), and he happily obliged. Then I began discussing my concerns with possible POTS symptoms. He started berating me and insulting my intelligence because I had looked up symptoms online (my sources being the Cleveland Clinic & John Hopkins). He scoffed and told me that I "don't know what I'm talking about" because "blood pooling in the legs" is "not a symptom of POTS" according to him- although I got that information online, directly from the Cleveland clinic. I also discussed the symptom of my hands feeling extremely hot at night - to which he told me that I'm just "making it up in my head". He continued to berate me and ask where I got all of my "wrong" information from. At this point- I felt beyond disrespected, disregarded, and uncomfortable. I got very quiet and no longer felt like speaking because every time I spoke- he berated me, belittled me, or dismissed me entirely. He started getting aggressive towards me when I no longer wanted to speak or continue answering him about my "online sources". He would not stop harassing me over where I got my information of symptoms from! I was visibly flustered and upset at this point and I told him "I'm uncomfortable, I want to leave". He legitimately told me that I could not leave until I told him where I got my information from. I got up to leave and he physically blocked the doorway and refused to move. I reiterated to him that I want to leave and he continued to block the exit. I started forcibly squeezing my way through the small gap in the door that I was able to pry open because I was now in a state of distress and panic. I've never in my life had a doctor block me from leaving, and I truly felt like I was in danger at that point. As I was pushing my body through small gap in the door- he threatened me. He said "if you leave you now, you will never be prescribed adderall by me or anyone in this building". I left in tears and total disbelief. I immediately checked his google reviews and noticed several other women had very similar experiences. He then went on to describe this visit in the after-summary notes and explain that I'm "bi-polar" and "unstable" so that is the reason that they won't switch my prescription to the Cleveland Clinic. This is false- I am not bi-polar, and he is deliberately retaliating against me for leaving the appointment. He is attempting to discredit me by falsely labeling me with a psychiatric disorder that I do not have and by referring to me as "unstable". I'm not crazy- I have never in my life complained about any person in the medical field, or any professional field for that matter. I would never go to the length of writing this or reporting this- if I didn't truly believe there is a serious issue that needs to be addressed and investigated with this doctor. Not only did this doctor belittle me, berate me, physically block me from leaving, but he deliberately withheld giving me my prescription out of spite and in a threatening manner as if I would be "blacklisted" from ever getting my prescription through the Cleveland Clinic. His retaliatory actions and attempt to weaponize mental health against me, as a means to discredit me is extremely disturbing. I strongly urge every person who has had a similar experience to report him because his conduct is disturbing and unethical.
