This was my 2nd valve replacement surgery performed by Dr Merle. My first was 15 years ago and 2nd performed in December2023. Dr Merle's team (office, surgical, OR ) are top notch professionals. Any questions my family or I had regarding the procedures were always addressed and I never felt rushed in receiving clarity. I don't intend to need them again BUT if I do (in another 15 years) my 1st choice would be this group. He is a fantastic surgeon and I would highly recommend him.

My boyfriend had to have open heart surgery for a valve replacement. He got him on his schedule within 4 weeks of his consultation, and he was very detailed in explaining the procedure. I highly highly highly recommend Dr. Merle to anyone and everyone.

I went to dr. Thomas Merle To have a robotic surgeryTo remove upper lobe of the left lung due to cancer. It was to be a 5 hour surgery with a 4 inch Incision and 4 1 inch. I was told I was in good hands and had nothing to worry about. Well due to an error from him knicking The pulmonary artery and being unable to fix it roboticly he had to go back in manually. The 5hr surgery turned into a 10hr one with a rib being removed and a 12 inch incision added, doesn't sound like being in good hands to me. It's been over a year and I'm still not healed and having complications due to his error. The worst part is, no apologies or explanation as to what happened, it's as if he's been avoiding me. Didn't even talk to me in recovery and all the staff at Kettering hospital said that it was odd of him.

This physician canceled my 80 yr old mother's surgery 3 times! She has a blockage that is severe. I have taken days off work to be with her all for it to be canceled. My husband took days off work to be with our young son. My mother even rearranged her schedule to have this done all for it to be canceled. She even made it to pre op, was hooked up to IV and meds and to be sent home 30 mins before surgery. Then given another surgery date of 2 days later only to get a call a day before to be canceled again!!!!! The worst part is the office staff lady who called was rude and abrasive and totally unsympathetic to our fears and concerns about my mother's health. Total "I don't care" attitude. We chose to drop this office and doctor and go with someone else and are VERY happy we did. Do not even try to go here if you value your health or that of a loved one.
