At 56 years old I never thought that I would have had to go under the open procedure of a triple bypass surgery. After meeting with Dr. Moses and having a procedure to determine if cardiac stenting was an option it was determined that an open chest procedure was recommended. That night at the hospital I meet Dr. Craig Smith who would be my surgeon for the triple bypass. Since I had collateral blood flow and no symptoms it was determined that I could go home and schedule the bypass procedure at a later time since additional testing had to be done like carotid artery testing and vein mapping and normal preoperative tests. They had me come in on the Wednesday prior to my Monday surgery and had all the testing done at the hospital in one day which was very convenient since I live in Rockland County about 1 hour away. This hospital is one of the best I have ever been too. Upon arrival when you check in they have you sign up for text messages on your phone which was awesome in keeping my wife up to date with test results, blood work, and general information of my whereabouts and status throughout my entire stay at the hospital. My surgery lasted about 6 to 7 hours and that is with prep and coming out of anesthesia. The care I received at this hospital was second to none. It goes without saying that I was scared I had never had a surgery before and had never spent an overnight in a hospital let alone 6 days. Everyone at this hospital has one goal in mind and that is making your experience a positive one. I mean everyone the Registration Department, the Valets, the Security, the PA's, the RN's the Anesthesia Team, the Surgeon, the Doctors, the Physical Therapy Department even the porter who came to clean my room when I was in ICU took such pride in their work and asked if I needed anything because they would get the nurse. I mean it was incredible both in ICU and in a regular room the nurses we terrific you can see they really love what they do and I can not thank them enough. Even when I was walking around doing my PT all the workers would smile at me and say great job you doing great these people did not know me or were on my case they just wanted to show encouragement for my success. What a great experience I would recommend this hospital to anyone that I speak to. There is a reason why this hospital is one of the top in the world. Thank you again I appreciate everything.
