Patient
I have had SO much trouble with billing at this hospital. Twice during my pregnancy, I needed to go in for emergency care. I waited and waited for a bill and nothing came. I called billing, which is run by people in another country, and learned I had a very large bill. I asked for the bill to be sent to me and was told they could not? They said they only sent bills on certain days so they would send me an itemized statement. They mentioned my bill possibly going to collections so I went into the hospital to pay my bill (because their system was down over the phone). This is where I learned that visits were never ran through insurance. In fact, the hospital didn't even have my address/phone number/insurance info! The woman I spoke to told me it was too late to run it through insurance. At 8 months pregnant, this was too much for me and I was balling my eyes out talking to this lady! Eventually, a supervisor intervened and helped me. Then, while in the hospital delivering my baby, I was told that if I paid my bill upfront, I would get a discount. So, I paid before I was discharged. Why, then, did I get another bill in the mail? They tried to charge me for the birth of my baby TWICE! When I called the actual hospital, I was told that there was no one in the hospital who could help me with billing and that I would have to talk to the billing department to resolve this. I had to talk to several people before I was finally transferred to someone who spoke enough English to understand what I was trying to tell them. The only reason I am giving two stars is because of the wonderful staff at CHI. I absolutely loved all of my nurses and they made my labor & delivery a positive and memorable experience. I even nominated one of my nurses for a Daisy Award. As a hospital, I think they can afford to hire people from Bismarck to handle billing. Until that happens, I will be seeking care at Sanford.
