My 5 month old son was transferred from Catawba to Brenners Children because he was dropping his oxygen, he was on the 8th floor in the PICU. it started out nice, but got worse throughout his time there, mind you he was only there for 5 days and i'm already leaving a bad review, which is insane. the second day there, they had just got done running tests which makes a baby tired, so he wasn't eating what they were wanting him to eat, he eats like a grown man normally but he was tired so it's understandable that he isn't gonna eat as much, they came in the room talking about putting a feeding tube in, I told them no because he didn't need it. a day goes by, they're still running tests and they start talking about putting a feeding tube in again, i told them no, they had the nurse practitioner come in to talk to me about it, i don't remember her name but she was rude. she came in the room, i said "i don't think he needs the feeding tube" for some reason she had an attitude right away and said "but... he does" and it led to a full argument because she came in the room with an attitude, i hadn't had any problems until i met her, anyhow, she just kept telling me he needed it when i knew he didn't. they did it because he lost one ounce. they put the tube in anyhow, i was crying and everything because they weren't doing nothing but making him uncomfortable because he already had a nasal cannula in. i told the nurse i wanted to either take him home or be transferred to a different hospital and she said i couldn't because i didn't have oxygen and i kept on telling her that i didn't want him there no longer, she went and got someone for me and sure enough it was that nurse practitioner, she comes to the door and says "i know im not the one you wanna talk to but" and i cut her off and told her that she's right and that she wasn't the one i wanted to talk to and to leave the room and get me someone else, she didn't leave the room, she kept on talking and telling me that he can't leave the hospital or be transferred because we don't have oxygen, which an ambulance does have oxygen, i kept telling her i wanted him to leave and go somewhere else if we couldn't take him home, she told me that if i really wanted him to leave that she was gonna have to call the police on me, which is stupid because if i say i want him to go to a different hospital, there is nothing wrong with that. she then came in an told me that he does need the feeding tube and that she knows he does because she's a doctor and she went to school for it and it led to an argument again. the next day they had to take it out because he was eating perfectly fine. they were wanting to force formula down his throat every three hours also knowing that he's plenty big and old enough to eat on demand. thankfully we got to leave the day after they took it out. everything they did up there was unnecessary and made my child so uncomfortable that he was crying everyday. throughout our time there, there was probably 5 good nurses out of the 20 that i met. i DO NOT recommend this hospital for anyone with children. they don't listen to the parents and they don't care how they make the babies feel. whoever that nurse practitioner is needs to be fired and have her medical license taken away. i don't know her name but she had short blonde/brown curly hair and was an older lady but not old old. i hated this hospital and i wont be taking my child back, i done had all his medical records sent to a different hospital and to different doctors offices because Brenners Children ruined my view on this place and if i would've seen all the reviews prior to him being transferred there, i would've picked somewhere else. keep your children as far away from this hospital as possible. in the picture you can see just how uncomfortable both of those in his nose were, they had tape to hold it down and the tape was almost over his eye, which is uncomfortable also.
