Patient Reviews

Patient

It has taken me 4 years to write this review. Exactly 4 years. Dr Jensen was my father's cardio-oncologist. Dad was 67 years old with stage 4 lung cancer. He suffered a big heart attack as a result of the chemo in December. Dr Jensen started seeing my father in January and ended up clearing him for routine hip surgery when, in fact, his heart was operating at only 18% capacity. He never reached out or called us to discuss these results. He just sent a note that said "cleared for surgery" which was then scheduled by his ortho surgeon. I tried contacting Dr Jensen several times both by phone and email before surgery day, asking for clarification on what I was reading on his stress test. I wanted to make sure we understood the risk in order to decide if we wanted to take that risk or put him through this surgery. He didn't respond. My father ended up going in for his surgery where the anesthesiologists refused to operate on him, understandably so. In fact they were so shocked that they cleared him when he had extremely low blood pressure and barely a 1/4 of a heart. In fact they pulled my mother aside and told her straight up that he will, no doubt, die on the table if they were to put him under. Dad then had to spend the night in CICU where he ended up having anxiety attack after anxiety attack and couldn't reach his Dr. He was continuously ignored, to a point where he ended up having a second heart attack but no one took him seriously until the next day when it showed up in his blood test. He then stopped breathing because of the amount of drugs they had to put him on and had to be intubated. We were never able to wake him up and told us to essentially pull the plug. He passed away a few days later from heart failure. I did not hear back from Dr Jensen until AFTER the second heart attack and he was already in hospice. He admitted to "missing it." I'm not saying he's the reason my father isn't here today. I believe my father was dying but no one told us. I do, however, wholeheartedly believe my father suffered in a cold hospital bed being ignored and never had a chance to say his goodbyes because of him. I believe we would have had a little more time with him and would have had a chance to say our goodbyes and tell him how much we loved him. I suspect that Dr Jensen is smart and probably a "good" Dr. but what I am sure of is the fact that he was extremely negligent and simply never cared for my father's life or comfort. My father told me he felt he was dismissive with him during appointments and I will never forgive myself for not taking that seriously. I have to live with this decision every single day. The trauma. The pain. The regret.
