Ellis Hospital

Despite the hospital's low ratings, my experience was generally positive. There was a wait, which is expected, especially when many patients need attention. However, once I was seen, the staff was attentive. They listened to my symptoms, ordered the necessary exams, and were able to identify the issue. Overall, the care I received was thorough and appreciated.

I arrived at 5 a.m. to the ER with an infection in my jaw causing severe oral pain. I was in a room at about 6 a.m. and was told it would be a couple minutes. I waited for 3 hours of no contact. After realizing the people that came in after me were being seen first I requested that they at least give me some ibuprofen or aspirin. The response I got floored me. "The doctors aren't here yet, we're not open until 9." This isn't my first experience with this place and I can't say I've ever had a positive one. Having a shortage of doctors is understandable especially this time of year but to not even check in on patients for hours after they've told you they are in severe pain is neglecting basic human decency. 0/5 you're far better off taking the drive to Albany or Amsterdam even if your condition is life threatening.

I would recommend everyone steer clear from this hospital. Danielle the RN doesn't understand what HIPPA is when I told her to look at my father's medical history on why he couldn't have whole food and needed his food puree and she told me she couldn't look at it because it's against HIPPA. What!? he is a patient, currently in front of her. The hospital has access to look at the medical record when he is your patient currently. Doctors don't call back, social workers don't call back, nurses hang up on you or place you on hold for 30+mins then disconnect. The doctors and social workers say they will call you back and 24+hrs later no call back. When you have a family member who is having serious health concerns you want to know what is going on, when you're a health proxy who is privy to this information. But at Ellis they don't care to assist family members and from looking at the reviews seems like a common problem. FOLKS STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL! They only care about the money and not the actual care of the patient. I've been keeping records, recordings and documenting all this for legal purposes.

I had an absolutely incredible experience at Ellis Hospital! The nurses were top-notch - attentive, thorough, and passionate about delivering exceptional care. During my 3-day stay, I felt comfortable and supported every step of the way. The team, and the amazing RN Sue, went above and beyond to educate me about my health issues and made me feel seen and valued. With my complex medical history, I've been to several hospitals, but Ellis Hospital stands out for its outstanding quality and compassion. However, I did have a concerning experience during discharge. A nurse from in charge of ER discharge came to my room, abruptly opened the door, and yelled out to the nurses "who's in 57!", disrupting my rest and startling others. She then continued to yell at the staff of nurses and techs about moving patients from the ER over. Looking into other rooms to see if they were empty. Unfortunately, she was unprofessional and rude, refusing to apologize to me and any others. This incident stood out as a stark contrast to the exceptional care I received throughout my stay. Despite this one negative encounter, I would still highly recommend Ellis Hospital for its overall excellent care and compassion. With some refinement in staff interactions, it would be truly exceptional. 9/10 would recommend. -Elise

I had to bring my husband into emergency on Thanksgiving day. I was expecting only minimal staff, however he was immediately taken in & received excellent care from the nurses and the doctor . He has been admitted to the fifth floor & his stellar care has continued. He also says that it's the most delicious hospital food ever . I would recommend this hospital . Thank you to Ellis Hospital & staff during a difficult time .
