Patient
Dr. Michael Sood is probably my favorite doctor that I have ever interacted with. A few weeks back, my grandfather was admitted to the hospital and there was concern about his heart given a depressed heart rate. Dr. Sood, recognized that at 92 years old, my grandfather was perhaps having an adverse affect from some medication. Though he considered various options for treatment, he decided to monitor my grandfather's condition and not jump to more extreme options. His patience and willingness to hear but also process what our family had to say was evident and paid off, as my grandfather made a steady recovery simply by being allowed the time to recover and rest. After several days, Dr. Sood said that my grandfather was cleared to leave from his perspective and towards the end of our chat, he said to me and two younger colleagues, tasked with shadowing him that day "Sometimes it takes more courage not to do anything than to do something." Dr. Sood is a breath of fresh air in an incredibly cookie cutter institution. He recognizes that each patient is different and requires a different approach. That even though he sees many patients, that they are still people, their families people, and has a genuine interest in seeing his patients get better. He is kind and engaging and in the two conversations I have had with him, I recognize that he is an amalgam of all of his experiences (from surfing as a kid to playing in bands and working varied jobs before medicine) and they make him the unique practitioner he is. I would recommend him to anyone at all.
