CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center

My husband died peacefully at St. Vincent's Hospital on December 3, 2025. The love, the caring, the support, the honesty, the expertise of the staff in the Progressive Care Unit is hard, if not impossible, to articulate. From the doctors, to the nurses, to the man who came to clean my husband's room, to Steve, the "tough guy" at the grill in the cafetiria, who came out to hug me when I was sobbing, the care he received was exceptional. I was married to my husband for 50 years and we spent hundreds of hours in hospitals in the past 15 years, so I am quite familiar with quality care. Starting with his treatment at the Cancer Center and until he took his last breath, we felt supported and yes - even loved in some cases. His Oncologist, Dr. Robert Ali, called me after James's death to offer his condolences. We will never forget his kindness and his honesty and his commitment to doing everything he could to give James more time. We never felt like we were just another patient to him nor to his outstanding staff. They called us, they checked in with us during the last two weeks of his life, to see how we were all holding up. It was hard to believe at times and helped me on the most painful journey of my life. Even though my heart is shattered into a million pieces, I am taking the time to write this now so that others may read it and know that should they have a choice of hospitals, do not hesitate to choose this one.

It was my first hospital stay ... at 74. From the second I entered Emergency at Christus St Vincent, to the minute I left there a day and a half later, I only have high praises to bestow on the team there. And I include ALL. I was admitted within five minutes to one of the rooms on the emergency ward and a CT scan was performed within half an hour. A Tele doctor was waiting for me on the screen in my room as I got back there, discussing the results. The nurses .. Judd, Cynthia, Faith were attentive and polite to my many questions and queries. (and I had many!). Judd, a lifesaver - who lent me his phone charger so I could watch "The Morning Show" pretty much the entire time I was there! To the staff sitting at desks whose names I did not get .. one of whom graciously got me a toothbrush and washcloths so I could regain some semblance of self respect after my unprepared night there, a huge Thank you! To the young men who wheeled me to MRI, and various parts of the hospital, keep going forward, your dreams become reality. The food came when it was ordered for, and the menu was such variety that when I showed the menu to my sister in the Caribbean she wanted to check in! In my interesting short conversations and actual experiences, I was gifted time and again that people DO care ... and care a lot. This is why they choose a caring (and at times challenging) profession. To those of you reading this, that expect them to stand on their heads immediately for your wants, please reconsider what they might be going through every minute of their day. They deserve your respect, as they respect you. BE KIND. My biggest gratitude and thanks to Christus St Vincent for my first (yet hopefully my last!) hospital experience.

I am POA for my sister who was hospitalized when I took her to the ER. The doctors found her unsafe to be living alone. My sister-in-law, also POA and I knew this to be true. We did our best to get her needs met, seeking services and caregivers but it was not enough. The hospital expedited the process of getting Teri into the higher level of care which she desperately needed. Teri feels happier in her new setting because she is safer. We are forever grateful to the amazing team of doctors, nurses, and case managers, and the particular case manager who accomplished this difficult task.

We had such a wonderful experience at the ER. My family and I recently brought our son there when he was very sick. The staff and nurses were amazing, kind, and so helpful. It's so hard having a young child in the ER but the staff made it so much easier. We have only had really positive experiences at Christus and we really appreciate the doctors, nurses and staff there!

Christus has been horrible for this community. Their last saving grace was the annual flu shot clinic they held for the community at no cost to the public with very wonderful volunteers administering the entire affair ( an existing tradition from the highly regarded, and beloved St Vincent's Hospital ). This year, 2025, they prematurely canceled the event with NO reschedule. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! SHAME ON YOU CHRISTUS! You are HORRIBLE. Thank the Dear Lord Presbyterian has moved into town. The thought of Christus curdles my blood, but I can go to Presbyterian for treatment! Chris Quintana ***********UPDATE December 2025************* The corporate raiders of Christus Health out of Irving, Texas ( part of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex ) and the local SVP of Christus Health New Mexico/ President & CEO of Christus St. Vincent, had the nerve to publish on the inside cover of their winter 2025 'LW LIVEWELL' magazine the following: "The 2024-25 flu season was one of New Mexico's worst in years......the flu shot is your best defense against a highly contagious illness......". See attached photo for full paragraph re: flu shot. A terrible irony, said publication was delivered in November 2025 - a mere thirty days after camcellation. The NERVE! Christus Health has quite the public relations/marketing campaign. The machine seems to run 24/7. I can't help but wonder why they don't partner with SFPS (ie. Santa Fe High School) or Santa Fe Place Mall to administer the flu shot clinic. Many believe they wanted any little excuse to cancel the clinic. I certainly believe it! If you need to pay your liability carrier an extra big fat fee for a day to hold the event in your facilities or someone elses then do it! YOU CAN AFFORD TO DO SO. The clinic has been held indoors on your premises in the past and on multiple occasions. Christus, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves! *******Update December 2025******** Less than 24 hours after posting above update, received response. No response for initial rating, however, the response is appropriate and appreciated. I hope the "leaders" take my comments to heart, acknowledge they have a logistical failure of some sort, and know they let down thousands of people in this community who depend on them for vital health services. If I was general manager of Santa Fe Place Mall or a merchant in the mall, I would welcome hosting such an event, for example. When held inside St. Vincent's in the past, the clinic ran extremely well. I don't know the reason(s) for not making that choice now. I suspect it could have to do with security, patient privacy, liability, etc., but some alternative must be sought! Maybe after the holidays all those doses could be put to use in an easily accessible indoor setting. My 89 year old mother and I were extremely fortunate to receive flu shots ( and other vaccinations ) at a family member's work place vaccination clinic held after the scheduled one at St. Vincent's ( note: this clinic was held in an office setting within a municipality. It is not a medical office or medical facility. ). What about the other thousands of people? Thank You for hearing me. I hope you make amends with this community and DO BETTER.
