I had surgery and it was the worst post-op experience I've ever had. I'm a nurse and I've had surgery at least 15 times so I know what to expect. I informed the anesthesiologist that I get nausea and vomiting after surgery and he said he'd place a scopolamine patch during surgery. I readily agreed. While ambulating with PT I became nauseated. I sat down but it worsened and I began to vomit. I checked behind my ears for a patch and there were none. I was in and out of consciousness and have never felt so terrible post-surgery. The nurses were encouraging me to get in a chair so I could go home. Every time I moved I'd throw up. I asked for the scopolamine patch and they never called the anesthesiologist for the order. While feeling like a truck ran over me two nurses were sitting nearby talking about online dating sites and laughing loudly. I realized I wasn't going to get the help I needed and knew I had some anti-nausea medicine at home so I started trying to get home. I barely managed to get in a wheelchair and into my vehicle. The only thing the nurses did for my vomiting was to give me vomit bags to take home. At home I continued to vomit each time I rolled over until about 4am. It was horrific. Combing the vomiting with the post-surgical pain was incredibly devastating. All of this was completely preventable if I'd had people who cared. I'd like risk management to look into this complaint and follow up with me.
This was an excellent experience. The pre-op tests were conducted efficiently and expertly, and I was actually in-and-out of the hospital within an hour! The actual day of surgery was also good. From the minute you walk in and go to the admitting desk, all the staff make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and at-ease--not an easy task when surgery is pending. The staff was friendly and the nurses very attentive. Pre-surgery visits by both the anesthesiologist and the surgeon answered all questions. Post-op recovery went smooth and I never experienced the slightest pain! I highly recommend this facility.
My dad was treated here for heart issues, stayed for three days, and the overall care was excellent! Em in emergency was very helpful and personable, once he was moved to a room Nurse Bella and Nurse Jill were consistently friendly, attentive, and professional. Dr. Hanson, in particular, stood out. He took the time to explain everything clearly and thoroughly, making sure we understood each step of my dad's care. His bedside manner was excellent, and his communication made the entire process much easier to navigate! We're very appreciative of the quality care my dad received. This is a great team, and we would confidently recommend this facility.
Not the first time we've been to Southern Hills, but each time we are treated like human beings, by amazing staff. We were taken right back, and triaged by an RN and a doctor in less than 2 minutes. Our concerns were valued and taken seriously, while the care team was ultra professional and very efficient. My wife had 3 really good nurses Madison, Dan, & Leslie who were empathetic, thorough, communicative and very professional. Dr. Choi was kind, light-hearted, professional, and genuine, while efficiently establishing course of action. This was a very traumatic experience for us, but the care team put us at ease, took us seriously, and made us feel like we were a priority. I also want to thank Boyd who registered us for making a very stressful process very chill and simple. Thank you for your kindness and empathy. Carmen who took labs was very sweet, gentle, efficient and very good at her job. I wish we got the name of the 2 stenographer girls who documented during triage, they were very sweet, answered any residual questions and showed genuine empathy. All in all, we are beyond grateful for the care we received, and the amazing staff at Southern Hills. We noticed the small refurbishment and really like the new look and layout, even for an ER, well done. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for all you do every day. You truly make an impact, and make our community better.
