Patient
My primary care physician suspected I had POTS and suggested I find a cardiologist who was knowledgeable about the condition. A medical assistant there at NV Heart and Vascular recommended Dr. Gururaj for POTS and I was told he deals with the condition all the time. However, at my appointment with him he was completely dismissive, rushed through the appointment, would only listen to about 3 symptoms, told me my symptoms had nothing to do with POTS (which they do), told me heart rate has nothing to do with POTS (the "T" in POTS literally stands for tachycardia which has everything to do with heart rate), told me there was something else going on that wasn't POTS. I somehow was still able to get a tilt table test ordered despite him being adamant that I didn't have POTS; took about 3 months to get the test (which isn't bad at all for that test); the doctors who performed the test told me right away that I had a positive test which meant I had POTS; however when Dr. Gururaj wrote his report, he stated that my heart rate dropped during the tilt table test which indicated vasovagal syncope...but according to the results from the hospital my heart rate did not drop during the test, it increase. My point is, he doesn't listen, he rushes through things, he is dismissive, he is inaccurate, he is invalidating, and he cost me several months of proper treatment. His ego can not handle it if you show up to an appointment with knowledge or questions about a condition that he himself did not suggest. In addition, he told me that for the tilt table test I needed to be off my meds for 3 days, so I stopped taking my meds before the test as instructed (which was brutal), and then they tried to cancel the test with 18 hours notice...I had to demand that they keep my scheduled appointment especially since I had been off my medications for days already. I later found out that they were trying to cancel the test because they failed to get the proper information to my insurance for a prior authorization. Just a terrible experience all around and I do not recommend this doctor or this practice.
