Patient
I brought my 85-year-old father-in-law to his 10:45 AM appointment today. We arrived at the building at 10:40 AM, but mistakenly went to the wrong floor first. By the time we reached the correct suite, it was 10:53 AM, just eight minutes late. To my shock, the front desk immediately told us we had missed the five-minute grace period and would have to reschedule. No understanding, no compassion, no consideration for the fact that my father-in-law is elderly and walks very slowly. We live on the other side of town, and I had to take time off work to get him here. What makes this even more frustrating is that during previous visits, we've sat in the waiting room for 20+ minutes past our appointment time without complaint. But today, being 8 minutes late meant an automatic reschedule, no exceptions. For a geriatric clinic, I expected patience and empathy for elderly patients who may need extra time to navigate parking, elevators, and walking. Instead, we were treated with rigidity and zero understanding. Management seriously needs to reconsider this strict five-minute policy and train staff to handle these situations with basic compassion. Turning away an 85-year-old man for being a few minutes late, while routinely keeping patients waiting, is unacceptable and inhumane. I will be considering alternative clinics that truly care about their patients.
