Walter Surowiec, DO

He is a wonderful surgeon who listens to your concerns and explains everything in detail. He did a wonderful job when I got a triple bypass and he later detected I had a double embolism in my lungs. He basically saved my life. I am grateful he was thorough and was my surgeon. His staff is really friendly and good too. Tiffany is his NP and she was able to check on me every day and took great care and comfort to me. She is a friendly person and knows how to handle most situations at hospital.

Dr. Suroweic will forcefully push you or your loved one into surgery. Told us "we wouldn't make it to another hospital." Guess we'll never know because My father died hours after surgery. Knowing what I know now, Dr. Suroweic was not capable of performing the surgery and should have been upfront and honest. We could've driven to anywhere else to stand a better chance. Lacks empathy, skill, and knowledge. Should be on a Dr. Death episode. Seriously scared to know his survival rate. I believe one of the times my dad coded, he came to talk to us and said he was in the middle of dinner, as if he was annoyed. They should've taken him back to surgery after the first code because it was an obvious sign of bleeding or failure. Instead, my salt of the earth father died in the ICU that night. If you are referred to this "surgeon", RUN.

Dr. Surowiec performed a triple bypass surgery on my brother Lester. We had an amazing experience, his knowledge compassion, and bedside manner was extraordinary. Lester has made a full recovery and doing very well. Our family cannot thank Dr. Surowiec enough.

Dr. Surowiec is a very patient and kind Surgeon. He is very compassionate with each patient and truly cares. Dr. Surowiec is highly skilled with heart and lung surgery. He surrounds himself with superb staff to help facilitate post op care. If you are in need of surgery from Dr. Surowiec you are in luck! He is the Dr. For the job!

I really need to let the Doctor know. My husband was a patient in November 2018 for a mitral valve replacement. Instead of the normal 5 day hospital stay it turned into a 22 day & night; back & forth to ICU nightmare! It was a long struggle with NO REAL FOLLOW UP...as a result,.. his lungs filled up with fluid & became fibrous...Pulmonary specialist said it was the heart...then Biloxi VA ( that has NO REAL DOCTORS) Nurse Practitioner, said it was the lungs!? FINALLY, after a failed lung surgery ( Singing River) Morning of Hurricane Zeta.....it was totally DOWNHILL AFTER THAT!!! Finally, duh...I did a little research. A little too late. Having a summer cabin in North Carolina. Turns out that the Durham VA ( directly across from DUKE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL) specializes in Heart Failure & the same doctors just walk across the street! BEST CARE EVER. At this point, my husband's heart had affected other organs & he was not strong enough for another Open Heart surgery. SOO, my advice to anyone reading this is DO YOUR RESEARCH! FYI, it was a bad BOVINE (COW) valve used to replace MITRAL VALVE. DUKE DOCTORS CONCLUSION and THE WRONG SIZE!!!
