Winona Health - Primary Care

Virginia is a very, thorough provider. I have seen her for the last few years, and always pleased with her care. I just Had my yearly preventive visit with her yesterday. She went through all of my lab, work results , my blood pressure, my medication's, and other miscellaneous things plus her physical exam. She is straightforward on giving any recommendations she may have. She is a great teacher, explaining everything to her patients and always asks if there are any other questions or concerns. Before any patient is seen by her, she looks through all of their information, their labs, their procedures, to make sure that she has everything in front of her before she sees them. I highly recommend her.

As I am new to the area, this was my first appointment with Laura, and I could not have been more pleased. Laura is quite personable and I felt at ease immediately. I was delighted to see her expertise as she dealt with my multiple serious health issues. I feel very fortunate to have my health needs met with her compassion and competence.

Dr.Shepherd has been my regular doctor for many many years. I have never had a bad experience with him. I have heard about his family and his fiddle playing. I really like that he treats me as a person and not just a patient. But what has made me completely trust him as my doctor is that he listens. If I have a question or concern he listens. To me that has been the most important attribute to me. I am so glad that he has been my doctor over these many years.

Anne-Marie Olson- Wagner had been my care provider for over 10 years, and she is excellent. She is compassionate without being a pushover, and is super knowledgeable about a wide variety of health areas. She also knows when my needs are better served in another department and refers me accurately. Will stick with her for as long as she's with Winona Health.

Winona Health seems to have a high turnover rate in Women's Health and Pediatrics in particular. (Both obviously are connected.) I've never had a primary care physician there, but I DID end up giving birth there (only because nowhere else took my insurance at the time). My midwife in 2016 was Tina Marie Strecher.... And no one there seems to have known her or remember her at all..... Another reason as to why I put no trust into WH is because about 3 years ago I took 2 pregnancy tests that were positive yet I began bleeding and cramping a couple weeks later. I called and asked for someone in Women's Health saying that I thought I was possibly having a miscarriage and I was told that couldn't get seen until the next week. When I did get there, the lady that I saw, (no idea as to her credentials, nor do I remember her name...) did NO tests to even see if I was in fact pregnant and literally just took my vitals and told me it was most likely a 'nonviable pregnancy' (which is NOT considered a miscarriage). These have ONLY been my experiences in the THIS area of medicine at Winona Health,(I do have plenty more in many others) but as far as any care that I've received regarding this, Dr. Virginia Green was great. She was very personable, easy to talk to and joke with (humor is my nervous default) and yet still very professional. She definitely made me feel at ease in that she was exceptionally capable in her field. OVERALL The takeaway here is that Winona Health is my least favorite facility I've doctored at, but my latest visit with Dr.Green lends some credence to it and gives me hope.
