Last year, I had a cardioversion at the Heart Center. The procedure was a complete success. Everyone was nice and treated me well. The facility is clean and modern. I would trust this hospital with my life!

My brother Bryan was a patient at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids. He struggled with addiction -- a disease -- and deserved to be treated with dignity. Instead, he was judged, dismissed, and treated as if his life didn't matter. While a few nurses were kind, much of the staff treated him with little respect. I overheard laughter and gossip about him from medical staff just down the hall. He developed a fungal infection after being hospitalized for some time, before Corewell got his labs back they transferred him to a long-term facility -- only to call hours later asking where he was. They didn't know themselves. The next morning, the long term care facility staff informed me that he was still there, struggling to breathe. EMTs were finally called, and I stayed on the phone to monitor everything. He was taken first to a local ER, where a doctor told me bluntly that he couldn't understand how anyone could have transferred someone in such critical condition. When he was finally brought back to Corewell and admitted to the ICU, it was nearly too late. Thankfully, the ICU team treated him with compassion. I told my brother I loved him before he was intubated. They kept him alive just long enough for our mother to fly in and say goodbye. My brother passed away that day. I cannot stop thinking about how humiliated and disregarded he must have felt in the final months of his life -- not just from illness, but from how he was treated by so many of the people in charge of caring for him. He was a human being who struggled with addiction -- not a throwaway. But at Corewell Health's cardiovascular unit, too many staff members acted as if his life didn't matter Bullying in nursing practice/ healthcare is out of control -- and what we witnessed during my brother's care was nothing short of institutional cruelty. I honestly felt like the hospital knew they couldn't be sued because of his addiction. Like they assumed nobody would fight for him. That kind of indifference is dangerous, and it's heartbreaking. This kind of environment is unsafe -- not just for patients like my brother, but for any family trusting their loved one to a system that tolerates such behavior. Corewell needs to take a hard look at its culture -- from the top down -- and decide whether its values truly reflect patient-centered care or quiet complicity in cruelty. Addiction is a disease. People battling it deserve respect, empathy, and care -- not judgment. I sincerely hope this review forces Corewell to reflect on their practices and how they treat patients who don't fit their ideal mold. No one should die feeling like their life didn't matter.
2023 had bacterial Endocarditis took out my knee, my penile implant, my heart wall and aortic valve Corewell saved my life. Great people and a wonderful hospital. thank you!
My son is a current patient. No one is helping him, they keep saying that he has to wait a day or two to see a tech. They are not providing any services, but scaring my husband and saying insurance won't pay if we discharge. Well, if you were providing the tests and the tech needed, he would stay. You guys are exactly why I dont go in unless I'm dying. So negligent, low vibrational, and terrible service. We will be switching away from Corewell come tomorrow for our primary doctors.
Possible heart infection after pacemaker. Told by hospital staff to call immediately before going to er to avoid germs and not mess around because infections can go very wrong very quickly. 3 hours and 3 pages no return call from surgeons office. Answering service giving a hard time. Patient afraid to go to er due to germs. Feels they collected their 35k and don't care. Quite disgusting and will be contacting attorney. SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE AND GO ELSEWHERE!!!!
