The conduct and care provided by Ms. Childs, the anesthesiologist assigned to me in the early morning hours of December 5th for the birth of my first child needs to be addressed.
From the moment she entered my room, her demeanor was abrupt and unprofessional. She did not introduce herself and immediately instructed me to sit on the edge of the bed. I requested a brief moment to finish an active contraction, at which point she stated, "I will not be waiting again," despite not yet being set up. This statement significantly increased my anxiety during an already vulnerable and stressful moment.
Throughout the procedure, Ms. Childs did not explain what she was doing, nor did she provide any warning before inserting the needle into my back. I verbally expressed confusion and fear, stating that I did not know what was happening and that I was beginning to panic. These concerns were ignored. I did not feel informed, respected, or safe during a procedure that is critical to maternal and fetal well-being.
A nurse present in the room had to step in to explain the process and attempt to calm me, as Ms. Childs continued without addressing my distress. I was experiencing a severe contraction during the epidural placement and was terrified of moving due to the known risks, yet the procedure was not paused. This was extremely frightening.
At the conclusion of the procedure, my husband thanked Ms. Childs in hopes of maintaining a respectful interaction should we need to encounter her again. She left the room without any acknowledgment. I was left in tears, feeling dismissed, unsafe, and too vulnerable at the time to advocate for myself. My nurse repeatedly apologized on her behalf.
The care I received from Ms. Childs made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a patient deserving of compassion and communication. This experience was deeply distressing and was only the beginning of what became a very traumatic delivery experience at your facility.
No patient, especially someone in labor, should feel frightened, ignored, or unsafe while receiving anesthesia care. I hope this feedback leads to meaningful improvements in patient communication and bedside manner.

Recently I was at McLaren Hospital and had to use their lab many times and the people that drew my blood were absolutely wonderful. Not only did they only have to pick me once, but they were so friendly and put me at ease as I just hate and fear needles.
Also I was up on the second floor for two cataract surgeries, and upper GI and a lower GI and your RN's were just wonderful to me and my husband. They did a great job putting in the IV's and once again explained everything to me in great detail and they helped to take my fear of everything away. Two of the male RN's, Jeff and Gary were exceptional in getting me to relax. They actually had me laughing. The care that I received was so good. I loved the warm blankets and everyone went so smoothly. And Dr. Vandenbelt and Dr. Cooley were wonderful.
I know that I hear people sometime referring McLaren as Bay Dead, but I sure did not find any of their complaints true. Your staff was excellent except for one of the ladies that checks you into the hospital. She must have been having a bad morning when I had her. She was rude to say the least. But I had the other two ladies and they made up for her rudeness. I would definitely recommend your hospital for what I had done. Thank you for having such a wonderful staff.

Actually the worse hospital I've been to. Literally. I've been here all day long admittedly as a transfer from another hospital for extensive testing. 1 full day got my blood drawn and maybe some bed sores. I wasn't offered food any meals and was starving told the lady 90 time to the point I asked for a hospital transfer. She took my iv out and said you do that at the front desk she lied and no one knows who a supervisor is. So now I'm walking in the cold cause I watched them grab this dude by arms and legs cause he was leaving took him back. Everything about this place is unacceptable.

It depends on what you are there for and what shift and staff. It is like day and night. I have been in there and had the most compassionate doctors with a very accommodating staff. That did everything they could to help when I went in there with an abscess in my tooth.
But if you get the wrong staff, sometimes they are very short, and if there is something really serious, I would not put my life in their hands. My friend went in there bleeding out of his mouth, his ears and nose. He had a perforated ulcer, and they cauterized it, but did not know he had two other ulcers after doing a scope on him. They sent him home after six hours and he was right back and had to go to Midland. So I guess I would give them a 3.5 and this is a combination of all the interactions I've ever had with them. There are some doctors and staff that I can't say too much about but then there are doctors and staff that are outstanding. It really is late night and day.

I was seen here for an accident that crushed several fingers and required X-rays and stitches. I was astounded at how well the ER team functioned and how effective and efficient they were. I was treated very well and they genuinely cared about me and the treatment they provided. Dr Johnson was amazing and she had a wonderful bedside manner. I would absolutely come here again to be seen. A huge "Thank you" to the staff for making the unfortunate visit so easy and pleasant.
