While the valve repair was successful, ultimately my mother succumbed to pulmonary toxicity most likely as a result of the amiodarone administered. As her health rapidly declined, no one had the common sense to question that her breathing troubles could be caused by the very drug they were administering despite it being a known, serious side effect until it was too late. Ultimately Dr. Bello advised and that we seek out another hospital as they had nothing else to offer in terms of care. We experienced insensitivite comments from the PA during this difficult time. If you are seeking heart surgery, please be aware of the very real and serious side effects of amiodarone.
I am so great ful to Dr. Bello and his team for their expertises. I appreciate my new valve and look forward to doing all the things I use to do before I got sick. Thank you from the bottom of my " heart."
