Dr. Helmke earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston in 1995. Following this, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University Hospital, and went on to complete fellowships in cardiology at the University of North Carolina Hospital and interventional cardiology at the University of Florida. Dr. Helmke joined Louisiana Cardiology Associates in 2002 and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.

Dr. Helmke performed a heart valve replacement on my 85 year old mom. He was kind and patient with her. He made her feel comfortable and reassured during the whole process. He spent time explaining the procedure during the office visit, as well as post-op in the hospital. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Helmke and I will also be seeing him in the future for myself.
I was seen at my appointment time. The staff, as always, was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Dr Helmke answered my questions, explained things in an understandable manner, and suggested a few changes. As always, I am very satisfied, and would highly recommend Dr Helmke.
