I want to share my family's story as a warning: please advocate for yourself or your loved ones when doctors recommend tests with contrast dye. My father's kidneys were severely damaged after one of these procedures, and my mother's health was devastated following another. Both of them passed away sooner than they should have.
With my mother, I raised concerns about whether the heart cath was necessary. She only had mild regurgitation on a stress test (which is not even 100% reliable), and we were mainly dealing with her being in A-fib. I questioned the test at the time, but the cardiologist brushed me aside and wouldn't even look at me and the nurses pressured me while she was already prepped on the table. That dye ultimately harmed her and took her from us.
I'm sharing this because families deserve honest discussions about risks versus benefits. Too often, patients are rushed into procedures that may not be necessary. Please don't be afraid to ask:
* Is this test absolutely needed?
* Are there safer alternatives?
* What are the risks given my health history?
I wish I had been truly heard. I can't change what happened to my parents, but I can warn others: speak up, don't be intimidated, and always demand clear answers before agreeing to tests or procedures. I wish they were a no star option as I wouldn't recommend this cardiologist to anyone.

My doctor sent the order for direct pay treadmill stress test for heart palpitations. Almost two weeks later, they finally scheduled me. Unfortunately, upon arriving, I was informed that they had scheduled me for the wrong procedure even though the order clearly stated the procedure my doctor requested. I completed the stress test on 6/18. I received a link via email at 11 pm that Friday night for my "visit summary." All that was listed was that the problem, "accelerated essential hypertension" was confirmed. No notes or information--just that. It took three phone calls with messages to the nurse and my doctor finally contacting them to find out almost two weeks later that the diagnostic code had been entered incorrectly and should have read "heart palpitations" instead. Also, no diagnosis was available yet since the cardiologist hadn't recieved the test information??? My doctor contacted them again today, July 1st, and a lady called me to tell me she still didn't have a diagnosis but would have the results by the end of the day. It is now 11:52 pm and no results. Meanwhile, I have been having heart palpitations this wphole time. At this point, I just want my money back and to go to somewhere else.

I wish I could give him a zero star.
During my husbands appointment on February 2025, I found that Dr. Wassim H. Shaheen, M.D. was not forthcoming with information regarding my husband's condition. Despite his efforts to ask questions and seek clarification, my husband was always cut off and the explanations provided were vague and insufficient. It is crucial for patients to fully understand their health issues and treatment options, and we felt that his concerns were not addressed adequately.
Additionally, my husband and I sensed a rushed demeanor from Dr. Shaheen, M.D. , which contributed to an environment where we felt uncomfortable asking questions or seeking the clarity we needed. This hurried approach left us feeling dismissed and undervalued as a patient.
Furthermore, we have noticed what appears to be a personal bias affecting our interactions. On several occasions, my husband felt that Dr. Shaheen, M.D. was holding a grudge, which negatively impacted the quality of care my husband received. A professional and respectful patient-doctor relationship is paramount for effective healthcare, and we believe this aspect is currently lacking.
We value the importance of open communication and a collaborative approach to healthcare. We hope to see improvements in these areas, not only for my husband but for other patients who may be experiencing similar challenges.

I had heard Dr Shaheen was supposed to be the best around so that's who we went to when my husband was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Our first visit was after they did a stress test. When he came in he sat down and said "your a very sick man". This is what we are doing.. prescribed meds, got up and walked out. Literally was in there maybe 5 min. He left us in the room shocked, crying, and thinking he was dieing. He wanted him to go in and have a heartcath done but couldn't get it done for 2 weeks. That was on a Friday. Sunday we went to the ER because he was having chest pains. They admitted my husband in hopes to do the heart cath the next day. That's when he found out that his kidneys had some damage. We had to wait a week in the hospital before they did the heart cath. If Shaheen would have just went in and did it he would have damaged my husbands kidneys even more with the dye. That was the second HUGE strike. Once they got his kidneys to a baseline they did the heart cath and found out he needed a triple bypass. We ended up being in the hospital 14 days and only saw Shaheen twice! We went in for 6 week post op. His PA came in and she really didn't want to answer any questions we had. When Shaheen came in he again said "your a very sick man". We are going to give you these meds and put in a defibrillator. Was in the room 5 min. Once again wouldn't answer any questions. We finally decided enough was enough so was able to get into a dr at the Oklahoma Heart Institute. They are AMAZING!! Our first visit our dr sat with us for 2 hours!! We actually felt like this is not a death sentence like Shaheen made us feel like. He is to busy to spend any time with his patients. I actually know someone who's dad died 2 weeks ago because Shaheen doesn't have time to actually spend with his patients and listen to them!! I have heard multiple stories like this or he just pushes them off and says "let's wait and see what happens"

Dr. Shaheen is the best cardiologist, he saved my life more than once! The awards he has received are definitely warranted! I have missed him since I moved to PA, but when I get back to my home in KS he will be the first Dr I call for care!
