Patient
First, I should tell you that I've been a patient of the NCH practice in Rolling Meadows for 10 years. I've dealt with multiple doctors from that practice, all of whom have been very kind, understanding and professional. Today was my first interaction with Dr. Krock. For context, I have been sick four times this summer, which is highly unusual for me. Something seems to be suppressing my immune system and I'm concerned it may be cancer. I've had carcinomas carved out in my face before, so cancer is part of my history. I asked Dr. Krock if he could order a CBC or tumor marker test. He said in a very curt tone, "We will do no such thing." I was a bit taken aback by his statement hoping that he would fill it in with some context. Later in the conversation, I discovered they can't order those tests because they need to be ordered by an oncologist. But rather than explain that to me, and say something to the effect of, "You seem concerned about the possibility of cancer and I can understand why you would be concerned because of your history and because you've been so sick, but there's a certain order of operations that needs to be performed to rule other issues out before we can go down that road." That would have been the kind thing to do. Instead, when he seemed unconcerned about my situation, I told him how I am very attuned to my body because I eat very healthy and I work out and I can notice small changes because I care about my health, his response to me was, "A lot of people care about their health." He didn't alleviate my concern. In fact, he didn't even really seem to care. He just ordered some tests and referred me to other doctors. All I can say is, his bedside manner is horrible. No one deserves to feel like they've been talked down to when they have a huge concern like they might have cancer. When I had that carcinoma carved out of my face at the age of 27, it was super scary and the doctors who were there for me helped me to feel that it was going to be all right. Nobody deserves to be treated this way and if it wasn't for all the other amazing doctors at that practice, I would leave all together. I can tell you that if I call again and they tell me the only doctor to see me is Dr. Krock, I will seek treatment elsewhere.
