About Dr. James Stewart, MD
Dr. Stewart is a structural and interventional cardiologist specializing in the minimally invasive treatment of valve disease. A native Atlantan; Dr. Stewart was actually born at Piedmont Hospital; as were all four of his children. After completing his education at Harvard; Yale; and Emory including cardiology; interventional cardiology; and structural cardiology fellowships at Emory; he stayed on as faculty and helped found and lead the Structural Heart program at Emory St. Joseph's Hospital from 2013 - 2020. He then was recruited to co-direct and lead the newest open heart surgery and structural heart program in the state at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton; GA. My husband had an angiogram through the wrist entry with Dr James Stewart at Piedmont in Buckhead. He had excellent care throughout the experience. The building is only 4 years old and feel brand new. There is a noticeable attention to cleanliness-no food allowed in waiting areas. The staff from valet, front desk, check in, nurses and doctors were all friendly, helpful and good at their jobs. Dr. Stewart was excellent. He has. Great personality in addition to his many qualifications and was very good at explaining the procedure and results in a way we could understand. We would see return to Dr Stewart and Piedmont for further care. I would refer friends to him as well.

After having had open heart surgery twice to replace my aortic valve, Dr. Stewart along with Dr. Thourani decided a TAVR procedure was best the third time around, and they literally saved my life. I am thankful and blessed.

I visited Dr.Stewart with what I thought were valve problems from my mechanical valve. He was very attentive and believed everything I said. At the last minute we realized it was a pacemaker issue, and he quckly contacted the electrophysiologist on staff. Since I left his care, I have been able to work out again and have the energy to complete my daily tasks, plus some. I would highly recommend Dr.Stewart to anyone.
