Gary Allen, MD, MMM, FACS, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who specializes in treating patients with various disorders of the lungs, heart and great vessels. He is specially trained in minimally invasive techniques for performing aortic valve, mitral valve and lung surgery. Dr Allen has vast experience in performing beating heart (off pump) coronary artery bypass graft surgery, repair of ascending aortic aneurysm and surgical correction for atrial fibrillation. A recipient of the Ralph D Alley Prize for Cardiothoracic Surgery and other honors, Dr Allen is a leader who provides cardiac and thoracic surgical services at AdventHealth Waterman.

Experience with Dr. Allen's Surgery and Aftercare in August 2018
Initial Impressions
Dr. Allen was highly recommended to us by a friend in the medical field, and his bedside manner before the surgery was exceptional. My father was a complex patient, having undergone several previous back surgeries and also managing diabetes.
Day of Surgery
On the morning of the surgery, my father was taken in at 7:00 AM. However, we were left waiting in the waiting room for hours, and it wasn't until 10:00 PM that night that we were finally able to see him. Throughout that entire day, no one came to update us or explain what was happening with the surgery, nor did anyone clarify why it was taking so long.
Post-Surgery Concerns
After the procedure, my father, who did not require oxygen before the surgery, was now dependent on 4 liters of oxygen full-time. When we asked the nurses and other doctors about this sudden change, we were told that "these things happen sometimes," but no clear explanation was provided. Later, when we consulted a pulmonologist, indicated that complications like this are not typical after such a procedure and suggested that something may have gone wrong during the surgery.
Follow-Up
When my father went in for his follow-up appointment, we were still left with unanswered questions and concerns about his new dependence on oxygen and the lack of communication throughout the process.

Dr Allen preformed a triple bypass surgery on me. 2 graphs failed almost immediately. I had a heart attack And now have permanent heart damage. Dr K put in 3 stents to try to repair the blockage. Didn't work. Dr K is now trying to cover up for Dr Allen. Waterman Hospital only has one heart doctor and a very small staff in ICU. Most of whom are not qualified.
