Greetings to all in the process of choosing the best surgeon you can find to perform coronary bypass surgery. During my own process in the fall of 2024, it was uncanny how many former patients I met in Venice in different settings who all had been surgical patients of Dr. Fong over the years; each older men with very successful long term survival and quality of life stories to tell. My strong trust in him was formed immediately and helped me get past my fears and anxiety so that I approached the surgery in a determined and positive frame of mind. Dr. Fong sized me up pretty quickly and knew what I needed to hear and how he should say it. How many physicians have the empathy and give the time to be able to do this? Listen hard to everything Dr. Fong tells you and internalize it. He will tell you exactly what goals you need to meet to be able to go home from the hospital. He will, with kindness, challenge you with these goals. Take them to heart ! I think he is motivating you to assist in the recovery and healing process, as well as forming a real bond with you to manage the process together. His post surgical visits reinforced the doctor-patient bond and progress made with your criteria for discharge goals. Because of Dr. Fong's incredible surgical skills, I made rapid progress in the hospital and have done very well since after six months. Dr. Fong saved my life and provided me the psychological support I also needed to successfully deal with the experience and to make needed lifestyle changes after the surgery. If and when I am asked, about Dr. Fong, I too will respond that he's simply the best heart surgeon in the country. I would like to share an amazing experience that I have had with Dr. Jonathan Fong and his surgical team before , during and after my open heart surgery of 6 bypasses . I am 72 years of age and somewhat active until one day I moved 10 heavy boxes that the UPS driver delivered and placed in front of my garage . After moving 2 boxes into the gararge I had to rest and was somewhat winded and surprised that I was .. After an appointment with my cardiologist and a stress test the visit to the cath lab for possible stents proved to be undoable which led to a consultation with Dr Jonathan Fong . after researchinthe many cardiac surgeons at First Physicians Sarasota Memorial Hospital . All the surgeons in that surgical suite are all capable of performing excellent open heart surgery and although my choice was Dr Fong he was also the first available for a consultation and to set up a date ASAP for surgery , the following week . After my surgery Dr Fong visited me in my room and as a requirement I was to sit in a chair and to start moving and to walk . I was walking immediately and was given the opportunity to go home after 2 days if I felt comfortable to do so but I stayed for 4 days and felt confident quite quickly and eager to return home ... For the first week I experienced discomfort but not to the point where would complain and was happy to be on the right track for recovery. I saw Dr Fong every morning during my stay at SMH and was assured that I was doing quite well and was in the upper percentile among those who had similar open heart surgeries at the time recovering . After 2 weeks I saw Dr Fong in his office and he said to me " This is our break up appointment " , meaning that I was to continue my visits from here on with my cardiologist and would not see him any longer , his job was done . I can't say enough about the care and treatment that I received from Dr Jonathan Fong and his team and highly recommend him as a heart surgeon .....

We are so thankful to have been referred to Dr. Fong. He spent a lot of time in discussion with my husband prior to bypass surgery. He patiently answered all our questions in a kind and compassionate manner. Absolutely an excellent doctor! So glad we were referred to him. Dr. Fong did my husband's quadruple bypass surgery. He is now 4 weeks post surgery and everything is going well.
