Dr. Dana DeCarlo is a fetal and pediatric cardiologist with the Heart Institute at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. She earned her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. DeCarlo completed a residency in pediatrics at UCLA/Mattel Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, California. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at NYU Langone in New York City. During her fellowship, she studied the use of specialized imaging techniques to measure fetal heart function and presented her pioneering work at regional and national conferences. Her clinical interests include preventive and congenital heart disease, as well as serving as a passionate advocate for her patients.

The first time we went to see Dr. Dana, we were in a very critical situation. It was overwhelming for us and we were extremely anxious.
But from the very first meeting with Dr. Dana, we were greatly comforted. Her way of speaking and explaining our child's health condition was reassuring, even though the situation was quite serious. She responded immediately and her serious and precise handling of our son's case was truly excellent -- something we deeply appreciated.
Even after we were transferred to the hospital, her follow-up was constant. On both a medical and emotional level, she always explained things to us in a detailed yet simple way. As parents with no medical background, we were still able to understand everything clearly, thanks to her.
From a medical perspective, every time we visited with our son, Dr. Dana would examine him thoroughly, never overlooking even the slightest symptom. She paid great attention to learning every detail we could share about what our son was going through, in order to make the most accurate diagnosis possible.

Amazing experience at this office! Everyone from the receptionist to the in-take nurse to the technician performing the tests was extremely professional. Dr. De Carlo took her time to explain everything to us, even drawing a diagram to show us how the heart works. We drove from 30 miles away to see this doctor after getting troubling results from an EKG screening for athletes at a different center. Dr. De Carlo put our minds at ease that our son could safely continue to play the sport he loves and we were on our way, school forms in hand. The snack bag at the end was a really nice touch, which my teenage son devoured on the long car ride home. :-)
