My wife, Lisa, was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer after the last annual CT screening for lung cancer showed a pea-sized tumor sitting at the bottom of her left lung. I was referred to Dr. Mark Malias, a Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon at HCA Lawnwood in Ft. Pierce. Every horrible, worst-case scenario there is ran through my head leading up to her initial appointment with him. Several physicians had referred him to me so I figured the guy was pretty good, but it's lung cancer, our nerves and optimism were stretched to the limit. The confidence with which he explained what it was and how he was going to remove it calmed her and I completely. I couldn't have felt she were in better hands. Dr. Malias and his team - each and every one of them - were not only confident, but knowledgeable, professional and, above all, were really good people. From the diagnosis to the procedure and recovery, he explained everything thoroughly and in very easy to understand terms so we knew what to expect before, during and after the procedure. There were no surprises. On April 4, he performed a lobectomy and tested over a dozen lymph nodes so to be thorough. Today, she is in complete remission. We are so grateful to Dr Malias, his PAs Frank and Taylor and his entire team. We couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. The man walks on water!

Dr. Mark Malias genuinely cares about his patients and is a skilled surgeon. His office staff is efficient, caring and simply the best I've experienced in this area. Dr. Malias takes his time thoroughly explaining everything & you never feel like he is going to run out of the room! He supports & commends family members for their never-ending detailed questions and makes you feel part of his team! My advise to prospective patients is to always find a family member or close friend that is willing to step up to help with your ongoing healthcare needs and be your advocate.
