I just left the hospital tonight, and I truly want to highlight how kind, welcoming, and patient the entire staff was -- from check-in to triage. Even though they were clearly doing the work of two or three people at once, they still listened, cared, and treated every patient with respect. You can tell they're running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but somehow still giving effective, compassionate care. I especially want to shout out Nurse Amanda, who spent almost five minutes searching for a blanket for me when there were none available. She ended up finding a sheet and draping it over me so I wouldn't be cold. That level of compassion cannot be taught in nursing school, it comes from the heart and is Daisy worthy. But as much as I'm praising the staff, I need to be honest: They deserve better support. From what I witnessed, they are understaffed, overworked, and lacking basic resources. Something as simple as linen should NEVER run out in a hospital. I was understanding, but not everyone will be and the staff shouldn't take the blame for things that are out of their control. Whoever funds or manages this hospital needs to do better so they don't burn out their nurses, doctors, and support staff. These are amazing healthcare workers doing everything they can with what little they have. Imagine how excellent this place could be if they had adequate staffing, updated technology, and reliable supplies. To the team that cared for me tonight -- thank you. You truly made a rough night easier. Your compassion does not go unnoticed

I went there last night after i've been dealing with chronic pain in my abdomen for months now. I got into the back quickly as there was no wait at 2:30 in the morning. I kept telling them how much pain i was in, and they DID NOTHING. I had to beg for meds while i was crying and didn't get them till 9:30 in the morning 7 hours after i had been admitted. Only to be told that they can't see anything wrong and sent me home. Right after being discharged, I left my phone in the back, I noticed while walking out. I ran back in, saying I forgot something on my cot in the back, they refused to let me grab it quickly, and made me wait until a security guard could do it. I understand there are hospital policies, but I hadn't even been gone for 5 minutes, and wouldn't let me look for it. The overall experience was just crappy, and I don't recommend this place.

I would like to begin by saying that I have had nothing but positive experiences with Hartford Healthcare as a whole; unfortunately, MidState was the exception. I brought my son in after a head injury sustained while playing football. He was showing many signs of a concussion. After waiting in the emergency department waiting room for over an hour, we were finally brought to a room. At no point did a nurse come in to check on him or offer pain medication or an ice pack, despite the fact that at triage he rated his pain as a 7 out of 10. When his father requested a blanket from the group of nurses gathered at the nurses' station, who were on their phones at the time, they appeared visibly bothered by the request. No blanket was ever brought, and we ended up finding a sheet in a cabinet ourselves. As my son began to fall asleep, I became increasingly concerned. It was now well over 2 hours since we arrived and over an hour to an hour and half since we were placed in a room and still no one, not even a PCA came to the room. approached the nurses' station and asked two nurses if he had been assigned a nurse or provider yet. They told me he had not and that they did not know when he would be. I explained my concerns and listed his symptoms as dizziness, sensitivity to light, and significant head pain. One nurse responded, "good." Shocked, I repeated, "good?" She then tried to correct herself, saying she had said "could," but the word was never used in that context. When I asked her what she meant by "could," she then changed her explanation again, saying she meant, "we could get you someone." That was not what had been said, and the interaction left me both appalled and unsettled. At that point, I immediately requested the number for the patient advocate as well as to speak with a charge nurse. I want to make it clear that the provider who eventually saw my son was wonderful. However, the treatment and lack of basic care from the nursing staff was unacceptable. This experience was nothing short of atrocious. I truly regret not going to Yale, where we would have received the professional, attentive, and compassionate care every patient deserves. Hartford Hospital is better than this and Midstate is ruining your reputation.

Meriden MidState Medical Center - ER My experience at Meriden MidState was extremely disappointing. The registered nurse Cheryl and nurse practitioner Victor were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. They did not acknowledge me when I spoke, ignored my concerns, and made me feel like I was a burden instead of a patient. After being placed in a room, I was left waiting for over an hour with no updates. I only received attention after I used the call button on the wall, which is unacceptable. No patient deserves to be treated this way. Their attitude and lack of communication made an already stressful situation much worse. I would give zero stars if that were possible.

Had to use ER because Yale could't provide a CT scan on short notice. Dr. Shapiro and the staff there are excellent people and professional. It took a while, they were very busy but they did an excellent job and identified the true source of my wife's ailment and not by way of the CT which didn't reveal anything (thankfully). Yale left us hanging going into a weekend after fumbling all week. These wonderful folks provided the diagnosis and sent us home with antibiotics and new hope for the future of the medical profession. We truly appreciate it !
